Meta description: How to cancel Netflix in 2026: the two-click web route, what to do when the Cancel button is missing, bundle and extra member traps, refunds, and what happens to your profiles.
You cancel Netflix at netflix.com/cancelplan.
Sign in, select Cancel, then Finish Cancellation. Netflix emails a confirmation, you keep watching until the end of the period you have paid for, and there is no fee. It is one of the shortest cancellation flows of any subscription service, and Netflix has kept it that way while its competitors were being sued over theirs.
So why does anyone need a guide? Because the two-click version only works when Netflix is the company billing you. A large share of US members are billed by T-Mobile, Verizon, Comcast, Apple or Google, and for those accounts the Cancel button is simply not there. Extra member slots keep charging after you remove the person. An account linked to a carrier bundle starts billing your old card again the day the bundle ends. And Netflix gives no refunds for a partial month, so cancelling on the wrong day costs you up to a month of Premium at $26.99.
This guide covers all of it: every billing route, the timing, the extra member and bundle traps, and what happens to your profiles and history after you leave.
Open netflix.com/account and look at the Membership section. If it shows a payment method and a Cancel membership link, Netflix bills you directly and Route 1 is all you need. If instead it says your membership is billed through a partner, or names a company, that company holds the subscription and Netflix cannot cancel it. Netflix’s own help page puts it plainly: if you do not see the cancellation option, you have to cancel with your payment partner.
| Who is billing you | How to tell | Where to cancel |
|---|---|---|
| Netflix directly | Card statement shows NETFLIX.COM; account page shows a payment method and a Cancel link | netflix.com/cancelplan |
| T-Mobile (Netflix On Us) | Netflix appears as a benefit on your T-Mobile plan; no Netflix charge on your card | T-Mobile account, Manage add-ons, then also check Netflix directly (see below) |
| Verizon (+play or myPlan perk) | Netflix or the Netflix and Max bundle is a line on your Verizon bill | The Manage page on Verizon +play, or the perk in the My Verizon app |
| Comcast Xfinity (StreamSaver or a Netflix add-on) | Netflix is a line item on your Xfinity bill | Xfinity account, Services or Apps and subscriptions |
| Apple | Receipt from apple.com; statement shows APPLE.COM/BILL. Only long-standing accounts still bill this way | iPhone or iPad Settings, your name, Subscriptions |
| Google Play | Receipt from Google Play; statement shows GOOGLE with a reference | Play Store app, profile icon, Payments and subscriptions |
| Another ISP, cable or mobile provider | Netflix appears on that provider’s bill | That provider’s account page or customer service |
If the charge on your card is from Netflix but you cannot find it on your account, someone in the household may have a second account under a different email address. Search every inbox in the house for a Netflix receipt before assuming it is fraud.
That is the whole process for a directly billed account. Your access continues to the end of the current billing period, so there is no reason to wait until the day before renewal to do it.
The mobile app. Open Netflix on your phone, tap your profile icon or the My Netflix tab, tap the menu, then Account. The app opens the account page in a browser, where Cancel membership is under Membership. On iPhone the app cannot cancel an Apple-billed subscription; you need Settings for that.
Smart TVs, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV and games consoles. You cannot cancel Netflix from the TV app on any of these. The Netflix app on a television has no billing controls at all. Use a phone or a computer and go to netflix.com/cancelplan. This is the answer to one of the most-asked questions about Netflix, and the reason is simple: the TV apps are built for watching, and every account action lives on the website.
One exception: if you subscribed to Netflix through a Roku account or another platform store years ago, that store may still bill you. Check the biller table above before assuming Netflix does.
T-Mobile Netflix On Us. The Netflix benefit is managed in your T-Mobile account under add-ons. Removing it ends T-Mobile’s payment. The trap is what happens next: if you linked an existing Netflix account to the benefit when you set it up, dropping the benefit does not cancel that Netflix account. Netflix goes back to billing the payment method it had on file before, and you are paying full price without having done anything. After removing the benefit, sign in at netflix.com/account and cancel there too, or confirm the account is closed.
Verizon +play and myPlan perks. Verizon’s own terms say a bundle subscription can be cancelled only through the Manage page on the +play website, or by removing the perk in the My Verizon app, and that cancelling the bundle cancels both services in it. The same linked-account trap applies. Verizon’s terms state that if you linked an existing Netflix account, cancelling the bundle will not cancel your Netflix membership and Netflix will resume charging the payment method it has on file. Check netflix.com/account after removing the perk.
Comcast Xfinity. Netflix bought through Xfinity, on its own or in the StreamSaver bundle, is cancelled from your Xfinity account under services or subscriptions, or through Xfinity support. Again, if you attached an existing Netflix account rather than creating a new one, confirm on netflix.com/account afterwards that billing did not simply revert to your card.
Apple. Netflix stopped taking new subscriptions through the App Store in 2018, but accounts that were billed through Apple before then can still be. If your receipt comes from Apple, open Settings on the iPhone or iPad, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, select Netflix, and choose Cancel Subscription. Refund requests for those charges go to reportaproblem.apple.com, not Netflix.
Google Play. Open the Play Store app, tap your profile icon, tap Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, select Netflix and cancel, or use play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions in a browser.
In every partner case, the rule is the same: cancel with the partner, then check netflix.com/account. If the account shows a payment method and a renewal date, it is still live and you cancel it there as well.
Since Netflix ended password sharing, the way to keep someone outside your household on your account is a paid extra member slot, currently $7.99 a month on the ads plan and $9.99 on ad-free plans. Two things catch people out.
First, removing the person’s profile or changing their password does not cancel the slot. The slot is a separate subscription line on your account and keeps billing until you cancel it. Go to netflix.com/account, find the extra member under Membership or Extra members, and choose Cancel or Remove extra member. Access for that person ends at the close of the current billing period.
Second, cancelling your main membership cancels the extra member slots with it, but the reverse is not true. If you only want to stop paying for the extra person, cancel the slot alone and leave your own plan running.
If you are the extra member and you want your own account, use Netflix’s profile transfer feature before the slot is cancelled. It moves your watch history, recommendations and saved list to a new membership, and it only works while the profile still exists.
Netflix’s terms are explicit that payments are non-refundable and there are no refunds or credits for partial months. That is the single most important thing to know about the timing of a cancellation.
It cuts two ways. Cancelling early costs you nothing, because your access runs to the end of the period you have already paid for. So if you know you want out, cancel now rather than setting a reminder you might miss. But if a renewal charge has just landed, cancelling does not get it back: you have paid for the month, and the sensible thing is to keep watching until the end date shown on the account page.
Your billing date is shown on the account page under Membership. If you cancel and later restart within the same period, Netflix simply reinstates the membership without a new charge until the original date passes.
Netflix does not currently offer a pause option in the United States. If you want a break, the practical equivalent is to cancel and restart later, which works cleanly because of what Netflix keeps after you go.
Netflix keeps your account for 24 months after it closes. That covers every profile, viewing history, ratings, recommendations, My List, and game saves and progress from Netflix Games. Restart within that window and it is all there. After 24 months Netflix deletes it and a restart is a fresh account.
Nothing is downloaded to keep. Any titles you saved for offline viewing in the app stop playing when the membership ends. If someone on the account wants to keep their profile going elsewhere, profile transfer is the way to do it, and it has to happen before the account closes.
If you paid with Netflix gift cards, any unused balance stays on the account and is applied when you restart. It is not refunded to you, so cancel when the balance is close to used up rather than with months of credit remaining.
| Action | What it does | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
| Cancel membership | Stops billing at the end of the current period; keeps profiles and history for 24 months | Does not delete your data, and does not cancel a partner-billed subscription |
| Switch to Standard with ads | Reduces the bill to $8.99 | Not a cancellation. Netflix offers this on the cancel screen and it is easy to click by mistake |
| Remove a profile | Deletes that profile and its history | Does not cancel an extra member slot or reduce the bill |
| Delete the account | Requests permanent deletion of your data under Netflix’s privacy settings | Only possible on a cancelled account, and it is irreversible. Do this only if you never want the history back |
For most people, cancelling is enough. Deletion is for anyone who wants Netflix to stop holding their data, for example after a breakup where the account was shared, or a household split. Cancel first, then use the privacy and data settings in your account to request deletion, and use profile transfer beforehand for anyone who wants to keep their own history.
Netflix raised US prices again in late March 2026, its second increase in a little over a year. Standard with ads went from $7.99 to $8.99 a month, Standard from $17.99 to $19.99, and Premium from $24.99 to $26.99. Extra member slots are $7.99 on the ads plan and $9.99 on the ad-free plans. The old ad-free Basic plan has been gone for new members since 2023 and has now been retired for existing members too.
| Plan | Monthly price (US, from March 2026) | Screens at once | Ads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard with ads | $8.99 | 2 | Yes |
| Standard | $19.99 | 2 | No |
| Premium | $26.99 | 4, with 4K | No |
| Extra member | $7.99 (ads) or $9.99 (ad-free) | 1 | Matches the main plan |
If the bill is the problem rather than the service, the honest arithmetic is that Premium costs $324 a year and Standard with ads costs $108, and the downgrade happens from the same Manage membership page as the cancellation, with no waiting period. A carrier bundle can also be cheaper than paying Netflix directly if you already have the plan; check what your carrier includes before cancelling outright. But if you are not watching, none of that matters, and cancelling is the right answer. Netflix makes it easy to come back.
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No Cancel membership link on the account page | Billed through a partner: T-Mobile, Verizon, Comcast, Apple, Google or another provider | Read the Membership section for the partner name and cancel there, then recheck the account page |
| Charged by Netflix after dropping a carrier bundle | The account was linked, not created, and Netflix resumed billing the card it had on file | Cancel at netflix.com/cancelplan. |
| Netflix support can help with card and charge details | ||
| Wanted to cancel, ended up on the ads plan | Clicked the downgrade offer on the cancel screen | Go back to netflix.com/cancelplan and finish the cancellation |
Netflix is the easy one. We cover the harder ones in the same detail: how to cancel Amazon Prime and get a refund, how to cancel an Adobe subscription without the fee, how to cancel Spotify Premium, how to cancel ChatGPT, and, for people search sites where cancelling does nothing about the listing that got you there, how to cancel a Spokeo subscription.
Netflix billing problems are rare and its support chat resolves most of them on the spot. Open help.netflix.com, sign in, and use live chat or the phone number shown there, with the charge date, amount and account email ready. For a partner-billed subscription, the partner’s support is the first stop, since Netflix cannot see or change that billing. If neither resolves it:
Go to netflix.com/cancelplan, sign in, select Cancel, then Finish Cancellation. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. If there is no Cancel option, you are billed through a partner and need to cancel with them.
Almost always because a partner is billing it: T-Mobile, Verizon, Comcast, Apple, Google or another provider. The Membership section of your account page names the partner. Cancel there, then check the account page again.
No. There is no cancellation fee and no contract. The only cost is that Netflix does not refund the current month, so you should use the access you have paid for.
No. The Netflix app on TVs, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV and games consoles has no billing controls. Use a phone or computer and go to netflix.com/cancelplan.
No. Payments are non-refundable and there are no credits for partial months. Your access continues to the end of the billing period instead.
On the account page, find the extra member under Membership and choose Cancel or Remove extra member. Deleting the person’s profile does not stop the charge; the slot has to be cancelled.
Because you linked an existing Netflix account to the bundle, and when the bundle ended Netflix resumed billing the payment method it already had. Cancel at netflix.com/cancelplan.
Not for 24 months. Netflix keeps profiles, viewing history, recommendations and game saves for that long, and restarting brings everything back. After 24 months it is deleted.
Cancel the membership first, then use the privacy and data settings in your account to request deletion. It is permanent, so transfer any profile someone wants to keep before you do it.
In the US, $8.99 a month for Standard with ads, $19.99 for Standard and $26.99 for Premium, after the March 2026 increase. Extra members are $7.99 on the ads plan and $9.99 on ad-free plans.
Check the Membership section at netflix.com/account to see who bills you. If it is Netflix, go to netflix.com/cancelplan, select Cancel, then Finish Cancellation, and keep watching until the end date. If it is T-Mobile, Verizon, Comcast, Apple, Google or another provider, cancel there, then check the Netflix account page to make sure billing has not quietly reverted to your card.
Cancel extra member slots separately, because removing the person does not stop the charge. Do not expect a refund for the current month. And do not worry about losing your history: Netflix keeps it for 24 months, and restarting takes one click.
