Short answer: The MyLife opt out is free and takes about ten minutes per profile. Search your name on mylife.com, copy the profile URL, go to mylife.com/privacyrequest, verify your email with the code MyLife sends, fill in the required fields, paste the URL, clear the CAPTCHA and submit. MyLife says it processes requests within 14 business days. If you have several profiles, emailing privacy@mylife.com with every URL in one message is usually faster.
MyLife is worth more effort than the average people search site because of what it publishes. Next to your address history and relatives, every MyLife profile shows a “Reputation Score” out of five that the company generates from records it does not itemize. For years the site also hinted that ordinary people had criminal records. That practice led to a federal lawsuit, a permanent injunction and a $21 million judgment in 2021. The score is still there. This guide covers how to get your profile down, what to do when MyLife stalls, and how to keep it from coming back.

MyLife.com is a people search and background check website run by MyLife.com, Inc., a Los Angeles company founded in 2002 as Reunion.com and renamed MyLife in 2009. It builds a public profile for almost every adult in the United States from public records, commercial data and web content, then sells subscriptions to see the full record.
Anyone can run a MyLife people search by name, city and state. The free preview typically shows:
The paid MyLife background check adds phone numbers, email addresses, full address history, court and criminal records, bankruptcies and liens, property records, social media links and estimates of income and net worth.
How did MyLife get my information? You did not sign up. MyLife assembles profiles from county court and property records, voter and licensing records where states release them, marketing and data broker lists, and public social media. That is why nearly everyone has a profile, and why removing one does not stop new data flowing in.
The MyLife Reputation Score is a number from 0.00 to 5.00 shown next to your name on your public profile. MyLife presents it as a summary of your reputation, based on inputs such as court filings, criminal records, financial records and reviews. It does not publish the formula, and the score can change without notice.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Is it a credit score? | No. It has no connection to Equifax, Experian or TransUnion and no legal standing |
| Who can see it? | Anyone who opens your profile, and often anyone who searches your name on Google |
| Can you change it? | MyLife lets members claim a profile and dispute items, but the method is not published and the profile stays public |
| How do you get rid of it? | Remove the profile. The score disappears with it |
A low score next to your name in search results is the reason many people look for the MyLife opt out in the first place. An employer, landlord or client does not know the number is unexplained. Removal is faster and more reliable than trying to raise it.
MyLife is a real company that has operated for more than twenty years, and its data comes from real records. It is also a company a federal court permanently barred from deceiving the public, and MyLife reviews and complaints on consumer sites are overwhelmingly negative, mostly about billing and removal.
In July 2020 the Department of Justice, on referral from the Federal Trade Commission, sued MyLife.com, Inc. and its founder and CEO Jeffrey Tinsley. The complaint alleged that MyLife’s teaser reports falsely implied people had criminal or sexual offense records, that it sold background reports for employment and tenant screening without the procedures the Fair Credit Reporting Act requires, that it enrolled people in auto-renewing plans without clear disclosure, and that it misrepresented refund and cancellation terms.
The court approved a settlement in 2021. MyLife and Tinsley were permanently banned from negative option billing without required disclosures and from implying that traffic tickets or other minor matters are criminal records, ordered to run an FCRA compliance program, and hit with judgments totaling $33.9 million, of which $21 million was payable.
The “possible criminal record” teasers are gone and the subscription terms are clearer. The profile and the Reputation Score are not gone. Both are still live and still indexed, and still yours to remove. So is MyLife a scam? Not in the legal sense, but it is a business built on publishing your data unless you opt out.
| Route | Best for | Typical speed | Drawback |
|---|---|---|---|
| Web form (mylife.com/privacyrequest) | One or two profiles; you want an official record | Up to 14 business days | One URL per submission, email verification each time |
| Email (privacy@mylife.com) | Several profiles; the form fails; citing a state privacy law | Often a few days | You need to chase if there is no reply |
| Phone (1-888-704-1900) | Form and email both failed | Can be done during the call | Business hours only; ask for written confirmation |
MyLife often holds more than one profile per person. It creates a separate page for each address history or name variant it cannot link, so someone who has lived in three states may have three profiles, and a maiden name adds another. Each is indexed separately and each needs its own request.
Email privacy@mylife.com (copy membersupport@mylife.com if you like). The key detail is the profile URL; list every one.
| Subject: Privacy Request: Remove My Profiles
Hello, I request the removal of my personal information from MyLife.com and its databases, and I do not consent to the sale or sharing of my information. Name as shown on the profiles: [Full name and any variants] City and state: [City, State] Profile URLs: [URL 1] [URL 2] [If applicable: I am a resident of [State] and make this request under [name of state privacy law], including my right to deletion.] Please confirm in writing when the removal is complete. [Your name] |
Do not attach ID unless MyLife asks, and if it does, cover the document number. If there is no reply after seven days, forward the original asking for a status update, then call.

When you call MyLife customer service, have your profile URLs and any confirmation dates ready, and ask for a confirmation email before you hang up.
These are three different things, and doing one does not do the others.
| Action | What it does | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
| Opt out | Takes your public profile and Reputation Score off MyLife | Does not cancel a paid membership you hold |
| Cancel subscription | Stops future billing | Does not remove your profile from public view |
| State law deletion | Requires MyLife to delete the data it holds and stop selling it | Does not stop new records creating a new profile later |
How do I cancel MyLife? If you paid for a membership, cancel it by calling 1-888-704-1900 or emailing membersupport@mylife.com, and ask for written confirmation that auto-renewal is off. Check your card statement for the next billing date. If you were charged after cancelling, dispute it with your card issuer and keep the confirmation. Then submit the opt out separately if you also want your profile gone.
MyLife is a registered data broker in California, and its privacy request form doubles as its state law request channel. If you live in a state with a comprehensive privacy law, such as California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas or Virginia, you can require MyLife to delete the data it holds on you, not only hide the profile, and to stop selling or sharing it.
Businesses generally have 45 days to respond, extendable by another 45 with notice. A deletion request is stronger than an opt out because it reaches the underlying record and gives you a documented legal request to point to if the profile returns.
California residents can skip the broker-by-broker routine. The state’s Delete Request and Opt-out Platform (DROP), created by the Delete Act, opened to consumers in January 2026 at privacy.ca.gov/drop. You verify residency once and submit one deletion request, and every data broker registered with the California Privacy Protection Agency, MyLife among them, must process it.
Brokers have been required to process DROP requests since August 1, 2026, and must re-check the list at least every 45 days afterward, so a rebuilt profile gets deleted again without you doing anything. For anyone who qualifies, it is the best answer to the “it came back” problem.
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Verification code never arrives | Check spam, wait ten minutes, then retry with a different email provider. Some corporate and university domains filter MyLife mail |
| Form rejects the profile URL | Copy the full URL from the address bar, including the ID at the end. Shortened or search result links will not work |
| Old /ccpa/ opt out link gives an error | That page is retired. Use mylife.com/privacyrequest |
| Profile still live after 15 business days | Email privacy@mylife.com with the URL and submission date. No reply in seven days: call 1-888-704-1900 |
| One profile gone, another appeared | MyLife does not merge profiles. Submit the new URL |
| Profile gone but still showing in Google | Google has not recrawled. See the search engine section below |
| You are outside the United States | MyLife blocks some non-US traffic. The email route works from anywhere |
A MyLife opt out suppresses the profile you identified. It does not stop the company taking in new records, and when a new address, phone number or court filing arrives that its matching system cannot tie to the suppressed profile, it builds a new one. Reappearance within three to six months is common, and sooner for people with a recent move, property purchase, business registration or court date.
Treat it as a routine. Set a calendar reminder every three months to repeat the Step 0 searches, use a removal service that monitors and resubmits for you, or enroll in DROP if you live in California.
Once MyLife removes a profile, the URL returns an error or a generic page, but Google may keep showing the old title and Reputation Score in results for days or weeks.
Our guide to removing personal information from Google covers each tool in detail.
MyLife operates under a permanent federal order and an FCRA compliance program, which gives a documented complaint more weight than it would carry with most brokers. If the form, email and phone have all failed:
Attach screenshots and dates. A documented pattern of ignored opt outs is exactly what regulators look for at a company under order.
MyLife draws on the same public records as every other people search site, so if your name returns a MyLife profile it almost certainly also returns Spokeo, Whitepages, BeenVerified, FastPeopleSearch, TruePeopleSearch, PeopleFinders, TruthFinder, Intelius and Radaris. Removing yourself from MyLife alone changes one result.
We have step-by-step guides for the Spokeo opt out, the Whitepages opt out, the FastPeopleSearch opt out, the TruePeopleSearch opt out and the Acxiom opt out, plus broader guides to removing personal data from data broker sites and removing your address from the internet.
If you would rather not run 30 forms and repeat them every quarter, an automated removal service submits and resubmits for you. Compare the options in our roundups of the top personal data removal services and the best personal privacy protection services in 2026.
A MyLife opt out removes one profile and one score. It does not fix a name search where the real damage is a news story, a court record on another site, a review site or a forum thread, and it does not help once someone has already acted on the score. Those problems need suppression, removal and publishing work, and a data broker sweep is normally the first step rather than the whole job.
ReVerb works with individuals and businesses whose search results need more than a form: removing or suppressing harmful pages, clearing data brokers at once, and building the positive presence that pushes the rest down. If a MyLife profile or Reputation Score has already cost you an interview, a lease or a client, start with our lists of the best reputation management firms in 2026 and the top content removal services for individuals and businesses, or talk to ReVerb through our online reputation management services page.
Yes. Anyone can remove their MyLife profile for free through mylife.com/privacyrequest, by emailing privacy@mylife.com, or by calling 1-888-704-1900. You do not need an account.
Yes. The form, email and phone routes are all free. Paid removal services charge for handling dozens of other sites and repeat checks, not for MyLife itself.
MyLife says up to 14 business days. Email requests are often faster. Google can take longer to drop the cached result.
A people search and background check site run by MyLife.com, Inc. of Los Angeles. It publishes profiles of US adults built from public records and commercial data, with a Reputation Score, and sells subscriptions to the full reports.
It is a real, long-running company, but it settled a DOJ and FTC lawsuit in 2021 over misleading criminal record teasers, FCRA violations and subscription billing, and it remains under a permanent court order.
From public records such as court and property filings, commercial data broker lists, and public web and social media content. You did not have to sign up for a profile to exist.
A number from 0.00 to 5.00 that MyLife generates and displays on each profile, based on data it does not itemize. It is not a credit score, has no legal standing, and disappears when the profile is removed.
Call 1-888-704-1900 or email membersupport@mylife.com and ask for written confirmation that auto-renewal is off. Cancelling does not remove your public profile, so submit the opt out as well.
MyLife creates a separate profile for each address history or name variant it cannot link. Each must be removed separately, which is why the email route, which accepts several URLs at once, is often quicker.
Not for the standard form or email opt out. A state law deletion request may trigger an identity check; cover the document number on anything you send.
MyLife says its reports may not be used for employment, tenant, credit or insurance decisions. The 2020 complaint alleged it sold reports for exactly those uses without FCRA safeguards. If someone used a MyLife report to make one of those decisions about you, raise it with a consumer protection attorney.
The form checks the email, not the identity of the person submitting, so in practice a family member can help. A state law deletion request on someone else’s behalf needs their written authorization.
Find every MyLife profile for every name and city you have used and copy the URLs. Submit each at mylife.com/privacyrequest after verifying your email, or send them all to privacy@mylife.com asking for removal and written confirmation. Wait 14 business days, then check; if anything is still live, email again and call 1-888-704-1900. Cancel any paid membership separately. Submit old URLs to Google’s Refresh Outdated Content tool. Californians should enroll in DROP. Everyone else should re-check every three months.
