Meta description: How much does a website cost NZ businesses in 2027? Real prices from NZ studios, from small sites to ecommerce builds.
A website in New Zealand can cost anything from under NZ$1,000 for a template build to NZ$50,000 or more for a custom platform, and the price you pay depends far more on scope than on which city the agency is in. If you are asking how much does a website cost nz, the most useful answer is a set of ranges by website type, backed by real numbers.
That is what this guide gives you. Instead of quoting averages from overseas surveys, we looked at New Zealand web design firms that publish their prices on their own websites, and we name each one. The figures below are what those firms showed at the time of writing (October 2026). They are indicative ranges only: every business you approach will quote on your actual requirements, and published prices change. Where a firm states whether its prices include GST, we say so.
Based on prices New Zealand firms publish:
Add 15 percent GST if the price is quoted “+ GST” and your business is not GST registered (or if you simply want to know the total cash outlay).
These are the New Zealand firms we found that publish their own website prices. Treat them as reference points rather than recommendations.

| PogoStick Web Services | New Zealand | Standard site $599, ecommerce site $1,099 | Not stated |
| Graphic Detail | New Zealand | Standard site $980 (up to 5 pages), ecommerce $1,200 | Plus GST |
| Spinning Planet | Palmerston North region | Webshop special $1,060.75 | Plus GST |

| Energise Web | Whangarei | Static from $1,500, CMS from $2,000, ecommerce from $3,500 | Not stated |

Two other firms publish useful market ranges rather than their own price lists. Meta Digital in Christchurch publishes a 2026 snapshot of the wider New Zealand market, and Summit Creative in Lower Hutt publishes ranges for affordable websites in Wellington. We include both below, clearly labeled as market estimates.
A brochure website is a site that explains who you are, what you do and how to contact you, without selling products online. It is the most common type of small business website in New Zealand.
At the low end, several NZ firms sell fixed packages:
The trade off with low cost packages is usually design flexibility, the amount of content help, and what you pay in ongoing hosting. Graphic Detail, for example, pairs its $980 build with managed hosting at $65 + GST per month on a 12 month minimum, so the first year costs considerably more than the build price alone.
If you want a custom design, more pages, copywriting and conversion work, prices rise. Kiwi Web Design in Auckland publishes typical ranges (excluding GST) of $800 to $2,000 for a one page site, $1,000 to $3,000 for a three to five page starter site, and $2,500 to $6,000 for a standard five to eight page site.
Market estimates go higher. Meta Digital’s published 2026 snapshot puts a small business site of five to eight pages at $5,000 to $15,000+ excluding GST, and a custom lead generating site at $9,000 to $30,000+. Summit Creative’s Wellington guide suggests $2,000 to $5,000 for template based sites from freelancers or small studios, $5,000 to $8,000 for semi custom sites and $8,000 to $15,000+ for custom websites.
The gap between these numbers reflects what is included. A $1,200 package usually means a template, your own content and limited revisions. A $10,000 project usually includes discovery, a custom design, copywriting, SEO setup and more rounds of changes. Online stores cost more because of product setup, payments, shipping rules and extra testing.
Meta Digital’s market snapshot puts ecommerce or complex builds at $15,000 to $50,000+ excluding GST.
Platform choice matters too. Kiwi Web Design notes that WooCommerce has no monthly platform fee, while hosted platforms such as Shopify charge their own subscription on top of the build. If you are planning a store, compare specialists on our Top Ecommerce Agencies In New Zealand For 2027 list.
Custom builds include member portals, booking systems, integrations with accounting or CRM software, multi language sites and bespoke web applications. Few NZ firms publish fixed prices for this work because scope varies so much, but the published ranges are consistent:
For this kind of project, expect a paid discovery or scoping phase, a fixed price or time and materials quote, and staged payments. Development focused firms are covered in our list of the Top Web Development Companies In New Zealand For 2027.
The build is only part of the cost. Budget for these every year.
Published .nz domain prices from NZ firms include $32 (PogoStick Web Services), $45 + GST per year (Energise Web) and $59 + GST per year (Graphic Detail). Email hosting is often extra: Energise Web lists email services from $5 + GST per month.
Maintenance covers software and plugin updates, backups, security monitoring and small content changes. Published NZ examples:
Meta Digital’s market snapshot says to expect professional hosting and maintenance to run from around $40 to $150+ per month.
If you build the site yourself, the main cost is the platform subscription. Rocketspark publishes NZ pricing of $49, $59 and $150 per month for its Website Builder, Pro and Pro+ plans, excluding GST, including hosting and SSL. Summit Creative estimates $0 to $500 per year for DIY builders such as Wix or Squarespace, not counting your own time.
New Zealand GST is 15 percent. NZ web firms quote prices in two ways:
If your business is GST registered, you can usually claim the GST back, so the exclusive price is your real cost. If you are not registered, add 15 percent to any “+ GST” quote before you compare it with a GST inclusive price. Some pages, including those of PogoStick Web Services and parts of Energise Web’s, do not say either way, so ask.
Work out the first year cost and the three year cost, not just the build price. Add the build, 12 months of hosting and maintenance, the domain, email and any copywriting or photography. Then ask each provider what happens if you leave: whether you own the site, whether you can move it to another host, and whether there is a minimum term.
Finally, get at least three written quotes for the same scope. The published prices above give you a sense check, so you will know quickly whether a quote is unusually high or suspiciously low.
Based on prices NZ firms publish, a basic small business website costs roughly $600 to $3,000 for a package or template site, and $2,500 to $15,000 for a larger, more custom site. Ongoing hosting and maintenance usually add $30 to $150 per month.
It depends on the firm. Many NZ web designers quote “+ GST”, which means you add 15 percent. Others, such as Impact Websites, quote GST inclusive prices. Always check before comparing quotes.
Low priced packages usually rely on templates, limited revisions and your own content, and some are paired with a monthly hosting contract and minimum term. Read what is included and what you pay each month.
Plan for hosting, a domain name, email, software updates and backups. Published NZ examples range from about $12.90 per month for a basic hosting and maintenance plan to $99 per month for higher tier managed WordPress hosting, before content changes or marketing.
