Meta description: How to cancel Jetts membership in New Zealand: notice periods, fees, holds and the exact steps from Jetts’ own terms.
To cancel a Jetts membership in New Zealand, you have to email Jetts; the club, the phone line and text messages cannot process a cancellation. That is the single most important rule in the Jetts NZ membership terms, and it trips up a lot of members who walk up to the front desk expecting to sign a form.
This guide explains how to cancel your Jetts membership step by step, how much notice you need to give, what happens if you are still inside a minimum term, and when a hold might suit you better. Everything below comes from the Jetts NZ membership terms published on jetts.co.nz (Jetts NZ is operated by Fitness & Lifestyle Group Bidco NZ Limited). Gym terms change, so if anything here differs from your own membership agreement, your agreement wins.
To cancel jetts membership on a flexible (no minimum term) direct debit plan, send an email to Jetts at least two weeks before your next direct debit, including your full name, your club, your secure access tag number and the date you want the membership to end. Make sure your account is fully paid. Jetts says it will contact you within 72 hours to confirm it has received the request. Keep a copy of your email.
If you are on a 12 month or 18 month minimum term, you can only cancel early in limited situations (medical or financial hardship with documents), by transferring the membership to someone else, or by paying out the remaining term.
A few minutes of preparation makes the process smoother.
Flexible direct debit memberships have no minimum term, so you can leave whenever you like as long as you follow the notice rules.
Write an email that clearly says you want to cancel. Include:
Only the membership holder can give notice. If the member is under 18, a parent or guardian must send it. If your email is not in English, the terms ask you to attach an English translation.
The Jetts NZ terms direct cancellation requests to the membership email address listed in the terms (membership@jetts.co.nz at the time of writing). Check the address on the current terms page before you send, because it is the only channel Jetts accepts. Do not rely on telling staff at your club or calling 0800 JETTS 247, as the terms say you cannot cancel in club, by phone or by text.
Your email must reach Jetts at least two weeks before your next direct debit. If you send it later than that, expect one more debit before the membership ends. The terms also mention that changes to a direct debit need at least three business days of notice before the Thursday billing day, otherwise a further weekly or fortnightly fee is payable.
Jetts says it will contact you within 72 hours of receiving your email to confirm receipt and that the cancellation will be actioned. If you hear nothing, contact Jetts again and keep your original email.
If a debit comes out after you sent a valid cancellation request, the terms say a refund will be paid if you can provide proof of your original cancellation email. This is why keeping a copy of the email (with the date and time) matters.
Stopping the direct debit at your bank without emailing Jetts does not cancel the membership. The terms warn that Jetts may contact you to arrange payment and can refer unpaid amounts to a debt collection agency.
Many Jetts memberships run for a fixed minimum term, such as 12 or 18 months. The rules are stricter here.
Once the minimum term is over, you cancel the same way as a flexible member: an email with your name, club, tag number and requested date, sent at least two weeks before the next debit. The terms say your membership is only cancelled once Jetts receives your confirming email, so it does not stop on its own at the end of the term.
Jetts only lets you cancel during the minimum term without a payout in two situations, and only if putting the membership on hold is not suitable:
You email the request with your details and documents, and Jetts says it will respond within 48 hours. Any direct debits taken during that review time are not refunded. Moving to a new city is not listed as a qualifying reason in the terms.
The terms allow a membership to be transferred to another person during the minimum term (transfers are not allowed once the minimum term is complete). If you have a friend or family member who wants to join, this can be a cheaper way out than a payout. Ask Jetts by email about the current transfer process and any fee.
For any other reason, you can pay out the rest of your minimum term. According to the Jetts NZ terms, the payout is the number of remaining weeks or fortnights multiplied by your regular fee, minus 20 percent. It must be paid immediately by online credit or debit card, and your membership is not cancelled until the payment is confirmed, so regular fees keep coming out until then.
If you paid for a fixed term up front (the terms mention 1, 3, 6 and 12 month paid in advance options), the membership cancels automatically when the term expires. You do not need to send a cancellation email. If you want to keep going, you email Jetts before expiry and pay for the next term in advance.
New members get a cooling off period. Under the Jetts NZ terms, it is five business days from the date you activate your membership agreement, or seven days from the grand opening date if you joined a new club before it opened. If you cancel in that window, Jetts cancels the agreement and refunds your initial payment or the direct debit fees deducted, less the value of any services you used.
A hold freezes your membership without ending it. Key rules from the terms:
If your reason for cancelling is temporary, compare the cost of a hold with the cost of rejoining later.
Jetts NZ charges a $4.99 Account Service Fee each quarter, according to its terms. Promotional joining offers have also included a one-off $15 access fee. Neither is refunded when you leave, and the terms state you are not entitled to a refund for returning your secure access tag. Failed payments must be repaid within five business days of the due date, or Jetts may terminate the membership, and arrears can still be pursued after that.
Once Jetts confirms your cancellation, your access ends on the agreed date and no further regular debits should be taken, apart from any amounts that were already owing. Delete any saved payment details in the app if you want, and keep your confirmation email until you have seen at least one billing date pass without a charge.
No. The Jetts NZ membership terms say you are not able to cancel in club, by phone or by text. Email is the required method.
At least two weeks before your next direct debit, for both flexible memberships and minimum term memberships that have finished their term.
There is no general cancellation fee for a flexible membership if you give correct notice and your account is paid up. Leaving a minimum term early costs the payout amount (remaining fees minus 20 percent) unless you qualify on medical or financial grounds or transfer the membership. The terms also allow Jetts to charge a cancellation fee in specific breach situations, such as bringing a child under 14 into a club.
Contact Jetts by email with a copy of your original cancellation request. The terms say a refund will be paid for debits taken after your request if you can prove when you sent it. If you cannot resolve it, you can also raise it with your bank.

The quickest way to cancel jetts membership is to send one clear email with your name, club, tag number and end date, at least two weeks before your next debit, and then wait for Jetts to confirm. Flexible members can leave at any time this way. Minimum term members either wait out the term, qualify on medical or financial grounds, transfer the membership, or pay out the remaining fees less 20 percent.
Before you send anything, read the current Jetts NZ membership terms and your own agreement, since they are the final word on notice, fees and holds. If your break from training is temporary, a hold may be the cheaper option.
