Sporting goods brands sell to more kinds of buyers than almost any other category.
The same store might serve a parent buying one pair of cleats, a coach ordering twenty personalised jerseys, a club running a season kit order and a dealer restocking for spring. Add size runs, colourways, left and right hand options and seasonal drops, and the catalog gets complicated fast.
The Shopify experts below have built stores for hockey, lacrosse, golf, swim, cycling, ski and team sports brands. We checked each agency’s own site for named sporting goods clients and looked at what they built: team stores, personalisation, fit finders, B2B portals for clubs and dealers, and migrations off legacy platforms. If you also sell athletic apparel, our list of the top Shopify agencies for fashion and apparel brands is a useful companion.

Realm is a Minnesota Shopify Plus agency that has been building Shopify stores since the early 2010s, with 259 shops helped and 122 five-star reviews by its own count. Sports and fitness is one of the industries Realm names as a focus, alongside exercise equipment, bikes and yoga gear, and that experience shapes how it builds for sporting goods: product structures that keep size and colour variants manageable, collections that work by sport, position and age, and templates that stay clean as the catalog grows.
That structural approach is what clients praise. In a testimonial on Realm’s site, NomadMat credits the team with understanding how Shopify products, collections and templates fit together, which made the store easy to grow. Realm also migrates stores to Shopify from Magento, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Volusion and others, and stays on after launch with SEO, Google Shopping, paid social and email, so seasonal drops and peak sales periods have traffic behind them.
Best for: sporting goods brands that want one partner for the build, the migration and the marketing through each season.
CQL is a Chicago Shopify Platinum Partner and one of the original ten Platinum agencies in the US, with a dedicated sporting goods practice. For Bauer Hockey, it moved the business from Salesforce Commerce Cloud to Shopify Plus and built Game Fit, a fit finder for skates, helmets and sticks, along with custom equipment, stick warranties, US, Canadian and Dutch stores in English and French, and a loyalty programme. CQL reports revenue up more than 60%, orders up more than 30% and a 49% increase in organic revenue in the first six months.
Its Escalade Sports work shows portfolio scale, with a run of new Shopify sites built for the group’s brands, including ONIX Pickleball, which CQL reports grew sales 139% year on year. For Chris Cote’s Golf Shop, it cut custom club order processing time in half. Field & Stream, Gazelle Sports and Kan Jam also appear among its sporting goods clients.
Best for: equipment makers and multi-brand sporting goods groups that need fit tools, custom orders and international stores.
ehouse is a Charleston-based Shopify Platinum agency. For Lacrosse Unlimited, it migrated the specialty retailer from Magento to Shopify Plus and added a header link to team orders and stringing services, filters by position and college, buy online and pick up in store, ship from store through Counterpoint POS and product options for custom work. The agency reports an 891% increase in organic shopping traffic and a 25% increase in cart-to-view rate.
For cycling apparel brand PEARL iZUMi, ehouse moved the business from Hybris to Shopify Plus, building the main site in 23 weeks and the international stores in five. It reports revenue up 24%, conversion up 13% and transactions up 14%. Title Boxing and HydraPak also appear on its client roster.
Best for: specialty sports retailers with stores, team services and large catalogs on aging platforms.
BlueSwitch is a New York Shopify Platinum agency, and its TYR Teams build is the closest match on this list to the team order problem. TYR’s team division serves swim teams and coaches, and BlueSwitch moved it to Shopify Plus with a Shopify B2B platform built for custom team gear.
When a team member registers, the store assigns them to their team’s company profile automatically. Each team gets its own collections and branding, customisation is limited to items the team has approved, previews update as options change and staff approve mockups before anything goes into production. It is a native B2B build rather than an app bolted onto a consumer store, which keeps team orders, pricing and approvals in one place.
Best for: brands selling custom uniforms and team gear to clubs, schools and coaches.
Swanky is a Shopify Platinum agency with offices in Exeter, Port Adelaide and Montpellier. For cycling distributor Saddleback, it built gated Shopify Plus B2B stores for UK and EU stockists with CSV bulk ordering, downloadable variant and stock files, gold, silver and bronze price tiers and a bespoke credit application. One month after launch, Swanky reports traffic up 704%, sales up 881% and a 9.54% conversion rate, and the project won B2B Website of the Year at the 2021 UK Digital Growth Awards.
On the fan and club side, Swanky delivered a Shopify Plus store and Shopify POS for Newcastle United FC, with kit personalisation on product pages, single sign-on and Global-e for international orders. Between the two projects, it covers both the dealer side and the fan side of sports commerce.
Best for: distributors and brands with large stockist networks, and clubs selling personalised kit.
Charle is a London Shopify Plus agency with offices in Manchester and New York, and it has rebuilt the global Shopify Plus stores of two heritage team sports makers. For Gilbert Rugby, it created a bespoke Online Store 2.0 theme with metaobjects and custom purchase journeys, Fast Simon filtered search that helps schools find branded products, a personalisation tool and in-cart recommendations.
For cricket brand Gray-Nicolls, Charle followed a similar pattern: rebuilt global stores, search tuned for school buyers of branded products, personalisation and a slide-in cart with upsells. For brands whose biggest customers are schools and clubs, that is a well-tested setup.
Best for: team sports equipment brands selling to schools, clubs and individual players worldwide.
Arctic Grey is a Shopify Platinum agency based in New York. For HB Sports, the baseball and softball equipment company behind Headbanger Sports, it built a mobile-first custom theme with a mega menu and product education, set up subscriptions and loyalty, added AI-driven upsells and moved wholesale onto Shopify B2B.
The agency reports sales up 37%, total orders up 76%, average order value up 37%, site traffic up 36% and returning customers up 51%. Running players and team dealers through one Shopify store is exactly what many bat and ball brands need.
Best for: baseball, softball and other equipment brands selling both direct and through team dealers.
Avex is a New York Shopify Platinum agency. For TYR’s swim, training and footwear store, it ran a pre-Black Friday optimisation sprint covering navigation, standardised tag filtering, search synonyms, handling of out-of-stock variants and site speed. Comparing Q4 2025 with Q4 2024, Avex reports 25% revenue growth and 37% growth in total orders, without a replatform.
For activewear brand Balance Athletica, Avex set up a two-brand Shopify Plus store with launch countdown pages for drops, back-in-stock flows and testing, and reports average order value up 22% and conversion rate up 168%. When a catalog runs through dozens of sizes and colours, getting filtering and stock handling right is where the revenue is.
Best for: athletic brands with big size runs, frequent drops and a heavy Q4.
Space 48 is a Manchester-headquartered Shopify Plus partner. For Function18, a UK golf apparel retailer with more than 15,000 SKUs across brands such as Nike, Under Armour and Galvin Green, it migrated the store from Magento 1 to Shopify Plus with a full SEO migration, Klevu search and merchandising, a custom smart collection script and multi-currency selling through Global-e.
The agency reports revenue up 96%, transactions up 98%, conversion up 33% and Black Friday sales up 50%. Multi-brand golf and sports retailers with deep size and brand ranges will find this a strong reference for protecting rankings through a migration.
Best for: multi-brand golf and sports retailers with very large catalogs.
Overdose is a Shopify Platinum agency headquartered in Melbourne with offices across Australia and New Zealand. For Wilson Sport, it built a localised Australian Shopify Plus store with SAP integration and a custom racket stringing option for string type and tension, linked out to Wilson’s global racket customiser and routed golf shoppers to their nearest Wilson Golf stockist.
Its wider work for Amer Sports covers Shopify POS across Arc’teryx, Wilson and Salomon, SAP data mapping, online-only pricing through Shopify Functions and early-access loyalty for Salomon. For global sports brands entering or growing in Asia Pacific, Overdose brings both the enterprise integrations and the local market knowledge.
Best for: global sporting goods brands with stores, stockists and ERP systems in Australia and New Zealand.
Team orders bring rosters, deadlines, approved items, names and numbers, and often a separate store per team. Ask whether the agency would use Shopify B2B, a custom portal or an app, and ask to see a live team store. Approval steps and order deadlines are where weaker builds break.
Size runs, widths, colourways and left or right hand options multiply quickly. Ask how the agency would structure variants, show size charts and fit guidance, filter by size in stock and handle back-in-stock alerts. A fit finder, like the one CQL built for Bauer, can cut returns as well as lift conversion.
Names, numbers, logos and custom builds all need clear previews, production-ready files and pricing that updates as options change. Ask how personalised orders reach your production team and how the agency prevents errors before they are printed or stitched.
Wholesale and team buyers need their own price lists, bulk ordering, credit terms and sometimes a dealer locator for retail shoppers. If this is a big part of your business, read our list of the top Shopify B2B and wholesale agencies as well.
Sporting goods sales follow the calendar: back to school, the start of each season, the holidays and big tournaments. Ask how the agency prepares a store for traffic spikes and limited drops, and who will run the marketing that brings shoppers in. Brands that want a separate marketing partner can compare options in our guide to the top Shopify marketing agencies.
Sporting goods brands need Shopify stores that can serve a single player, a full team and a dealer network without confusing any of them. Realm leads this list for brands that want the build, the migration and the marketing in one team, while CQL and ehouse stand out for large equipment brands and specialty retailers, and BlueSwitch and Swanky for team and stockist B2B. Shortlist two or three, ask each to walk you through a live store with team orders and size-heavy variants, and choose the partner whose answers match how your customers actually buy.
