How To Cancel Spokeo Subscription And Stop The Charges In 2026

You cancel a Spokeo subscription at spokeo.com/user/account.

Log in, scroll to Manage Account, click Cancel, and keep the confirmation email. If no Cancel button appears, use the Contact Form link in the same section, choose “I would like to terminate my membership” from the dropdown, and select Terminate Now. Customer Care will also do it by phone on 1-888-271-9562, seven days a week excluding holidays. There is no cancellation fee.

That is the version every guide gives you, and for most people it works. What those guides leave out is the part that decides whether you actually stop paying: the deadline is 11:59 PM Pacific on the last day of your trial or billing period, Spokeo’s payment policy makes every sale final with no prorated refunds, and if you signed up inside the mobile app then Spokeo is not the company billing you and cancelling on the website will not stop the charge.

This covers all of it, plus what to do when the charge has already landed.

    What This Guide Covers

First, Work Out Who Is Actually Billing You

This is step zero and skipping it is the single most common reason a cancellation appears to fail. Spokeo sells directly on the web and also through mobile apps, and a subscription bought inside an app is billed by the app store, not by Spokeo. Cancelling in your Spokeo account does nothing to an Apple or Google subscription, and Spokeo’s Customer Care cannot cancel one either.

Find the original receipt and check who sent it.

Who is billing you How to tell Where to cancel
Spokeo directly Receipt from Spokeo, card statement shows a SPOKEO descriptor with a customer service number spokeo.com/user/account, or Customer Care on 1-888-271-9562
Apple Receipt from apple.com, statement shows APPLE.COM/BILL iPhone or iPad Settings, your name, Subscriptions
Google Play Receipt from Google Play, statement shows GOOGLE with a reference Google Play Store app, profile icon, Payments and subscriptions
PayPal PayPal activity shows a recurring payment or billing agreement to Spokeo Cancel in your Spokeo account first, then cancel the billing agreement in PayPal

If more than one of these is true, and it happens more often than you would expect when someone has signed up twice on different devices, cancel all of them. Each is a separate subscription with its own renewal date.

Route 1: Cancel In Your Spokeo Account

    1. Go to your account page. Open spokeo.com/user/account and log in if prompted. Use the email address the receipts go to, not the one you would normally use, because a second address means a second account.
    2. Scroll to Manage Account. Spokeo also labels this area Usage and Subscriptions in some versions of the page. Either way it is the section that lists your current plan.
    3. Click Cancel and work through the confirmation. Expect at least one screen offering you a discount or a pause. Declining it is not the same as cancelling, so keep going until the page tells you the membership will not renew.
    4. Wait for the confirmation email. Spokeo sends it to the account address. If it does not arrive, assume the cancellation did not complete and check the account page again.
    5. Screenshot the confirmation. Save the date, the plan name, and the reference if there is one. This is the document that settles any later dispute with your card issuer.

Your access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. Cancelling early does not buy back the unused days, so there is no advantage in waiting until the last minute, and a real risk in it.

Route 2: The Contact Form, When There Is No Cancel Button

Some accounts do not show a Cancel button. Spokeo’s own instruction for that case is to use the Contact Form link in the same Manage Account section, select “I would like to terminate my membership” from the dropdown, and then select Terminate Now.

Treat the submission as a dated record. Note the time you sent it and keep the acknowledgement, because a form request that goes unanswered while a renewal date passes is exactly the situation where a written trail changes the outcome.

    Route 3: Cancel By Phone

Spokeo’s payment policy lists Customer Care on 1-888-271-9562, available seven days a week excluding holidays. Phone is the right route if the account page will not load, if you cannot log in, or if you want a person to confirm the cancellation while you are on the line.

Ask for three things before you hang up: confirmation that the membership will not renew, the date access ends, and a reference number. Then check that the confirmation email arrives.

Route 4: When Apple Or Google Is The Biller

If the receipt came from Apple, cancel on the device. Open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, select Spokeo, and choose Cancel Subscription. You can also do it from the App Store account screen or at reportaproblem.apple.com.

If the receipt came from Google Play, open the Play Store app, tap your profile icon, tap Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, select Spokeo, and cancel. The same thing can be done at play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions in a browser.

Both stores keep your access running to the end of the paid term, and both have their own refund processes that are, in practice, more forgiving than Spokeo’s. Apple’s refund request tool and Google Play’s order history refund request are worth trying before anything else if the charge has already gone through.

The Deadline That Decides Whether You Are Charged Again

Spokeo’s payment policy is unusually clear about this, and it is the sentence people wish they had read first. Cancellations must be received prior to 11:59 PM Pacific Time on the last day of the trial or the current billing period. Miss that and the plan renews at the same term and price.

Two things follow from it. A free or low-cost trial converts automatically unless you cancel inside the trial window, which is what most complaints about Spokeo billing actually are. And because the policy states that all sales are final and plans are non-refundable, with no prorated refund for a partial month, cancelling the day after a renewal usually leaves you paying for a full period you will not use.

If you are on a trial you are unsure about, cancel immediately. Access runs to the end of the trial regardless, so cancelling on day one costs you nothing.

Refunds: What The Policy Says, And What To Do Anyway

The written position is that sales are final and memberships are non-refundable. That is the starting point, not necessarily the ending point.

In practice, ask anyway, and ask well. Call Customer Care on 1-888-271-9562 or use the contact form, and give them the specifics: the date of the charge, the amount, the last four digits of the card, the account email, and a plain statement of what happened. A request that says “I was charged on 14 August for a renewal I had cancelled on 2 August, reference 12345” is a different conversation from “please refund me”. Goodwill refunds happen, and they happen to the people who make it easy to verify.

If that fails and you believe the charge was taken after a valid cancellation, or that you never authorised it, the next step is your bank or card issuer. Dispute processes have their own time limits, usually counted in days from the statement date, so do not sit on it. Send the issuer the same evidence: the cancellation confirmation, the dates, and the charge. Cancel the subscription first if you have not already, because a chargeback does not cancel anything and an unresolved subscription can generate another charge while the dispute is open.

Cancelling, Deleting, And Opting Out Are Three Different Things

These get treated as one action constantly, and they are not. Doing one does nothing for the other two.

Action What it does What it does not do
Cancel the subscription Stops the recurring charge at the end of the current period Does not close your account, and does not touch any listing about you
Delete the account Closes the account you created and its login Does not remove the public profile Spokeo holds about you, which is separate data
Opt out of the listing Suppresses the public profile page from search results Does not cancel billing, and does not require an account at all

The one that trips people up is the third. If your name and address are showing publicly on Spokeo, cancelling a subscription changes nothing, and you do not need an account, a trial, or a payment to fix it. That runs through the free opt-out form instead, which we cover step by step in our Spokeo opt out guide.

Californians: Cancellation Has To Be Easy, By Law

California’s automatic renewal law was substantially rewritten by AB 2863, signed in September 2024, with the expanded requirements applying to contracts entered into, amended, or extended on or after 1 July 2025. Spokeo is headquartered in Pasadena, so this is not a distant technicality.

The parts that matter to someone trying to get out:

    • If you signed up online, you must be able to cancel online, in the same medium, without being pushed to a phone call
    • Online cancellation has to be a direct link or a click-to-cancel button that processes the request promptly
    • Retention offers are allowed only if the business first tells you that you can complete the cancellation at any time, or shows the cancellation link at the same time
    • Phone cancellation lines must be answered promptly during normal business hours, and a voicemail request has to be actioned within one business day
    • Longer-term plans require a renewal reminder that names the service, the amount, the frequency, and how to cancel

Federally, the picture is less settled. The Federal Trade Commission’s click-to-cancel rule was vacated by the Eighth Circuit in July 2025, days before it was due to bite, and the Commission restarted its negative option rulemaking in 2026. In the meantime the FTC continues to bring cases under the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act, which already prohibits charging people in a negative option scheme without clear disclosure, informed consent, and a simple way to stop the charges.

The practical use of all this is leverage. If a cancellation is being obstructed, saying so in writing, with dates, to a company that operates in California is more effective than another polite chase.

Do Not Pay A Third Party To Cancel For You

A whole category of sites and apps offers to cancel subscriptions on your behalf for a fee, and several of them rank for this exact search. Spokeo states plainly that it is not affiliated with any third-party vendor or app offering to cancel a subscription for a fee.

The cancellation itself takes about two minutes and costs nothing. Handing a stranger your account credentials, or a fee, to click the same button is a poor trade, and it adds one more company holding your payment details.

When The Cancellation Does Not Stick

Symptom Likely cause What to do
No Cancel button on the account page Account variant, or the subscription is not billed by Spokeo Check the receipt for an Apple or Google biller first, then use the contact form route
Charged again after cancelling The cancellation landed after 11:59 PM Pacific on the last day of the period Contact Customer Care with the confirmation and the dates, then dispute with your issuer if it is not resolved
Cannot log in to cancel Signed up with a different email address, or the account was created during checkout Search your inbox for the receipt to find the right address, then use password reset.

Phone Customer Care if that fails Charge continues after the account is deleted Deleting an account is not cancelling a subscription Cancel the subscription explicitly, and check the app stores and PayPal for a second one A SPOKEO charge you do not recognise at all A trial someone in the household started, or a one-off report purchase that converted Search all household inboxes for a Spokeo receipt, then call Customer Care with the date, amount and last four digits Cancelled, but your information is still public Cancelling is not opting out Submit the free opt-out form for every profile URL that is you Two charges in the same month Two accounts, or one web and one app subscription Cancel both separately, in their own systems

When Stopping The Billing Is Not The Whole Problem

Most people who end up on a Spokeo billing page arrived there because they searched their own name and did not like what came back. Cancelling the charge does nothing about that. If your name is tied to a professional profile, an active harassment situation, or a search result you cannot outrank on your own, ReVerb tracks the firms that do this work at scale, from reputation management generally to the leading reputation management firms in 2026.

    Escalating

If a cancellation or a refund request goes nowhere, keep the account email, the cancellation date, the confirmation, and the charge details together, then:

    • Dispute the charge with your bank or card issuer, inside their time limit
    • California residents can complain to the state Attorney General, and the automatic renewal law gives specific obligations to point at
    • Anyone in the United States can file with the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov
    • Residents of other states can complain to their own Attorney General, most of which run consumer protection complaint portals
    • A Better Business Bureau complaint is not a regulator, but it does reach the company’s complaints queue and creates a public record

    Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Cancel My Spokeo Subscription?

Log in at spokeo.com/user/account, scroll to Manage Account, and click Cancel. If there is no Cancel button, use the Contact Form link in the same section, choose “I would like to terminate my membership”, and select Terminate Now. Customer Care will also cancel it by phone on 1-888-271-9562.

Does Spokeo Charge A Fee To Cancel?

No. Spokeo states there is no fee to cancel. Access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for.

How Do I Cancel A Spokeo Free Trial Without Being Charged?

Cancel before 11:59 PM Pacific on the last day of the trial. The trial converts to a paid membership automatically after that. Cancelling on day one costs you nothing, because access still runs to the end of the trial.

How Do I Get My Money Back From Spokeo?

The payment policy states that sales are final and memberships are non-refundable, with no prorated refunds. Ask Customer Care anyway, with the charge date, amount, card last four and account email, because goodwill refunds do happen. If the charge came after a valid cancellation, dispute it with your card issuer.

What Is The SPOKEO Charge On My Card?

It is almost always a people search membership that renewed, often from a cheap trial someone in the household started. Search every inbox in the house for a Spokeo receipt to find which email address holds the account, then cancel it and call Customer Care about the charge.

How Do I Delete My Spokeo Account?

Account deletion is handled from the same account settings area, and it is a separate action from cancelling. Cancel the subscription first, confirm the billing has stopped, and then delete the account, because closing the account is not itself a cancellation.

Does Cancelling Spokeo Remove My Information?

No. Cancelling stops the billing. Removing your public listing is a separate free process through the opt-out form, and it does not require an account or a payment.

Can I Cancel Spokeo By Phone?

Yes. Customer Care is on 1-888-271-9562, seven days a week excluding holidays. Ask for confirmation that the membership will not renew, the date access ends, and a reference number.

Why Am I Still Being Charged After Cancelling?

Usually one of three things: the cancellation landed after the 11:59 PM Pacific cut-off, there is a second subscription billed by Apple or Google, or there is a second Spokeo account under a different email address. Check all three before disputing.

    The Short Version

Check the receipt first to see whether Spokeo, Apple, Google or PayPal is billing you, because cancelling in the wrong place achieves nothing. For a direct subscription, go to spokeo.com/user/account, open Manage Account, click Cancel, and keep the confirmation email. Do it before 11:59 PM Pacific on the last day of the trial or billing period, because there are no prorated refunds and the plan renews automatically.

If a charge has already landed, call Customer Care on 1-888-271-9562 with the specifics before going to your card issuer. And remember that cancelling stops the billing but leaves your public listing exactly where it was, which is what our Spokeo opt out guide and our guide to removing personal data from data broker sites deal with.
