To cancel a Wix subscription, open Premium Subscriptions in your Wix account, click the three-dot More Actions icon beside the plan, choose Cancel Plan and confirm. Your domain, business email and paid apps are billed separately and each needs its own cancellation. Cancel a new plan within 14 days and it ends immediately with a full refund; after that it simply stops renewing.
Canceling Wix sounds like one button. It is closer to four or five, because a Wix account rarely holds a single subscription. The site plan, the domain, the business email and any paid apps are billed separately, and turning off one of them leaves the others charging your card on schedule.
There is also a timing trap. Wix treats cancellation as switching off auto-renewal, except during the first 14 days after buying a new plan, when the same button ends the plan on the spot and refunds you. Press it on day 6 when you only meant to stop the next renewal and your site drops to the free version immediately.
This guide walks through every part of a Wix account, in the order that costs you the least. It was checked against the Wix Help Center on 28 September 2026.

Cancellation is a renewal switch, not a delete button. After you cancel a site plan outside the refund window, the plan stays live until the end of the billing cycle you already paid for. Nothing changes that day.
When the period does expire, three things happen. Your custom domain stops pointing at the site and the address reverts to the free Wix format, something like siteprefix.wixsite.com/siteaddress. Wix ads reappear on your pages. Premium features switch off.
What does not happen is data loss. Your pages, text, images and settings stay exactly where they are on the free plan. The site also stays publicly visible, which surprises people who assumed cancellation would take it down. If you want it gone from the web, you have to unpublish it as a separate action, covered below.
1. Work out which day you are on. New Premium and Studio plans carry a 14-day money-back guarantee. Cancel inside that window and the plan ends immediately with a full refund. Cancel on day 15 or later and it runs to the end of the cycle. If your goal is simply to stop the next charge on a plan you just bought, wait out the 14 days first, then cancel.
2. Find the real renewal date. Wix charges yearly and multi-year plans up to three weeks before the expiration date shown on your account, and starts emailing reminders 30 days before that payment. Monthly plans renew on the expiration date with no reminder email. The date you need is in the upcoming payment section of Premium Subscriptions, and on a yearly plan it is earlier than you expect.
3. List every subscription in the account. Open Premium Subscriptions and read the whole page. A site plan, a domain, a mailbox and two paid apps is a normal load, and each one bills on its own schedule.
4. Remember where you bought the plan. If you subscribed through the Wix Owner app on iPhone or Android, Apple or Google holds the billing relationship and the Wix cancel button will not reach it.
5. Export anything you want to keep. Wix has no full site export. Save your copy, download your images, export your contacts, and pull your store orders and invoices before the premium features go dark.
You should see a confirmation on screen and by email. Check that the plan now reads as expiring rather than renewing. If it still shows an upcoming payment, the cancellation did not register and you need to run it again.
Changed your mind? You can switch auto-renewal back on at any point before the expiration date and carry on as if nothing happened.
If you are abandoning one site but keeping Wix, do not cancel. Unassign the plan from the old site and assign it to another site in the same account. You keep the value you already paid for and skip the refund question entirely.
If the subscription was purchased inside the mobile app, the charge runs through the app store and only the app store can stop it.
On iOS: open Settings, tap your Apple Account name at the top, tap Subscriptions, find Wix or Wix Owner in the list, and tap Cancel Subscription.
On Android: open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, go to Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, select Wix and tap Cancel subscription.
If Wix does not appear in either list, you bought the plan on the Wix website and the desktop steps above are the ones you need. Canceling on a phone browser through wix.com works exactly like the desktop route; it is only in-app purchases that are handled elsewhere.
Domains are a separate subscription and canceling the site plan does nothing to them. To stop the renewal, go to Premium Subscriptions, click the More Actions icon beside the domain, click Cancel domain, select Cancel auto renew and submit.
Two things to be clear about. Wix domain purchases are non-refundable and carry no 14-day guarantee, so there is no money to recover. And canceling does not release the name early; you own it until the registration term runs out.
If the domain matters to your brand, transfer it out rather than letting it lapse. Move it to another registrar while the registration is still healthy, well before expiry, and keep control of the name and any email attached to it. After expiry, Wix gives roughly 30 days of grace and then roughly 30 days of paid redemption before the name is released, and some country extensions skip the grace period entirely.
For a Google Workspace mailbox bought through Wix, open Premium Subscriptions, click More Actions next to the business email, click Cancel business email, tick the confirmation checkbox and confirm. Mailbox renewals can be charged well ahead of the expiry date, so this is one to handle early.
For a paid app, use More Actions beside the app, then Cancel App, then Cancel auto renew and confirm. Refunds here follow the developer’s policy rather than Wix’s.
The refund is automatic rather than something you apply for. Cancel a new Premium or Studio plan within 14 days and the plan ends immediately and the charge comes back in full. How quickly it lands depends on your bank, not on Wix.
Outside that window there is no entitlement. Wix’s refund policy excludes renewals, upgrades of an existing plan, and domains, and the remaining months of a yearly plan are not refunded when you cancel partway through. If you have a genuine billing error, such as a duplicate charge or a renewal after a confirmed cancellation, contact Wix Customer Care with the invoice from your Billing History and make the case there.
Resist the urge to go straight to your bank. A disputed charge is treated as a chargeback, and that can lead to the services on the account being suspended, including domains and email, which is a far worse outcome than a slow support ticket.

Action |
What it does |
Reversible? |
|---|---|---|
|
Cancel plan |
Stops renewal; site drops to free plan at period end |
Yes, until expiry |
|
Unpublish site |
Takes the site offline; content stays in your account |
Yes, republish any time |
|
Delete site |
Moves the site to Trash |
Yes, restore from Trash |
|
Close account |
Removes access to everything in the account |
No |
Open the site’s dashboard, go to the site actions menu and choose Unpublish. The site stops being reachable at its address, but the content stays in your account and you can republish it later. This is the right move if you want the site off the web while you decide what comes next.
Cancel or unassign the site’s plan first, then move the site to Trash from your dashboard. A site in Trash can still be restored, so it is only truly gone once the Trash is emptied.
You do not have to wait for canceled subscriptions to expire first. The exception is a Wix-registered domain still in the account: you either transfer it away or wait for it to expire and pass through the grace and redemption periods, which takes roughly two months. Transferring is almost always the better answer.
Closing an account is not the same as erasing it. If you want your data permanently deleted from Wix’s databases, that is a separate request.

Most people cancel Wix because they have outgrown it rather than because they disliked it, and the replacement should answer the specific thing that pushed them out. Before you pick anything, two rules of sequencing save a lot of pain. Keep the Wix site live on the free plan until the new one is finished, because a canceled site is still a working reference for your copy and structure. And transfer the domain rather than canceling it, so the address survives the move and your email keeps flowing.
There is no one-click migration off Wix. The platform has no full export, so pages are rebuilt rather than moved, and the practical work is redirects, meta data and content transfer. Budget for that regardless of where you land.
WordPress is the usual destination for anyone who hit the ceiling on customization, page limits or code access, and Wix to WordPress is the most common move we see. You own the files, you choose the host, and nothing about the platform can be withdrawn from you by a billing decision. The trade-off is that maintenance becomes your responsibility, which is why most business migrations run through a specialist rather than a DIY weekend. Our roundup of the top WordPress developers in 2026 covers agencies that handle migrations, theme builds and ongoing care plans.
Wix handles small catalogues well and gets expensive and restrictive as volume climbs. Shopify is the standard next step for merchants who need serious inventory, multi-channel selling and a real app ecosystem. For a straightforward build or replatform, see the top Shopify development agencies. If you are already doing meaningful revenue and the migration has to happen without losing a day of trading, the Shopify Plus agencies for high-volume merchants are the tier that handles that kind of cutover.
Plenty of people leave Wix not for a better tool but because building and maintaining the site was never their job. If your site exists to bring in enquiries and bookings, the top web design firms for service-based businesses work to that brief specifically. If you are pre-launch or early stage and need brand and site together on a startup timeline, the best web design and development agencies for startups is the more relevant list.

No. Your content stays intact. At the end of the billing period the site moves to the free plan, reverts to a wixsite.com address and shows Wix ads. Deleting the site is a separate step.
Not under the standard policy. The 14-day money-back guarantee covers new Premium and Studio plans only, and does not extend to renewals, upgrades or the unused portion of a plan.
Yearly plans are charged up to three weeks before the expiration date so the site never goes dark. Cancel before that payment attempt, not before the date printed on the plan.
Yes, as long as the plan has not expired yet. Turn auto-renewal back on from Premium Subscriptions and billing continues as normal.
No. Domains, business email and apps each need canceling on their own. This is the single most common reason people keep getting charged after they thought they had left.
The same way as a yearly plan: Premium Subscriptions, More Actions, Cancel Plan. Monthly plans renew on the expiration date with no reminder email, so cancel at least a day before it.
Not as a direct import. Wix does not offer a full site export, so the content has to be rebuilt on the new platform and the old URLs redirected. It is a normal migration job, just a manual one.
Cancel every subscription, clear any Wix domain, move your sites to Trash, then close the account from the close account page. Closing removes your access; permanently erasing your data from Wix’s databases is a separate request after that.
Recover the account through the login page first. If the account belongs to a former employee or agency, or the email address is dead, Wix Customer Care can work through ownership verification with you. Do not let the renewal date pass while you wait.
To cancel a Wix subscription, go to Premium Subscriptions, click More Actions beside the plan, choose Cancel Plan and confirm. Then do the same for the domain, business email and every paid app, because each bills separately.
Check the date before you click. Inside 14 days of buying a new plan, canceling ends it immediately with a full refund; after that it just stops the next renewal, and nothing is refunded. Yearly plans charge up to three weeks early, so cancel before the payment date rather than the expiry date. Plans bought in the iOS or Android app are canceled through Apple or Google.
Your content survives cancellation on the free plan. Unpublish the site if you want it offline, transfer the domain if you want to keep the name, and decide where you are going next before the cancellation date rather than after it.
