To cancel Neon, log in to My Account on the Neon website, open Plan & Payment and select Cancel under Manage your plan; you keep watching until the end of the period you have already paid for.
Neon is the on-demand streaming service run by Sky Network Television in New Zealand, offering TV series, movies and movie rentals. Whether you are trimming your streaming budget, switching to another service or moving overseas, the way you cancel Neon depends on how you pay for it. Most people pay Neon directly by card, but some access it through a bundle, a telco or a third-party offer, and those routes are cancelled in different places.
This guide explains every route, what happens after you cancel, how refunds work on monthly and annual plans, and what to do if a charge still appears after you have cancelled.
A few minutes of preparation makes cancelling smoother and avoids surprise charges.
If you pay Neon directly with a credit or debit card, this is the route you need. Neon’s terms of use state that you may end your subscription at any time by cancelling on the Neon website.
Neon plans renew automatically each month, or each year on the annual plan, until you cancel. Before the cancellation completes, you may be shown a retention offer. Neon has published terms for a cancellation promotion that gives 50% off your plan for three months instead of cancelling, which at the time of writing works out to NZ$7.49 a month on Basic or NZ$11.99 a month on Standard. If you accept, the plan renews at full price after three months unless you cancel.
If your statement shows Apple as the merchant for a Neon charge, the subscription is managed through your Apple Account rather than on the Neon website. Apple’s own steps are:
On a Mac, open the App Store, click your name, choose Account Settings, then Subscriptions, select the subscription and click Cancel Subscription. You can also manage subscriptions on the web at account.apple.com. Apple notes that if there is no Cancel button, or you see an expiry message in red text, the subscription is already cancelled.
If Google appears as the merchant on your statement, cancel through Google Play on your Android device:
Google states that you keep using a cancelled subscription for the time you have already paid, and that uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription. Deleting Neon from your phone on its own will not stop the charges.
Neon is also sold in bundles and through telco partners, and those subscriptions are cancelled with the partner.
Sky Sport Now and Neon Bundle Pass. Neon’s bundle FAQ states that you cannot cancel the Bundle Pass on the Neon website. Instead, log in to the Sky Sport Now website and go to My Account, then Subscriptions. When you cancel, both your Sky Sport Now and Neon access end at the end of your current Sky Sport Now billing period. At the time of writing the bundle is listed at NZ$64.99 a month. After cancelling you can still buy a standalone Neon plan if you want to keep Neon alone.
Spark. Spark offers Neon Standard as an add-on billed to eligible Spark Pay Monthly mobile or broadband plans. Neon’s help centre directs Spark customers who need help with cancelling to contact Spark customer service through spark.co.nz/help.
Other third-party offers. Neon’s terms explain that when you get Neon through a third party, cancellation and timing may depend on that third party’s terms, and you may need to turn off auto-renew in your account with them.
Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not cut you off straight away. Neon’s terms state that you can continue to use your subscription until any prepaid period expires. On a monthly plan, that means you keep watching until your next billing date. On the annual plan, you keep access until the 12 months are up.
Your account itself stays open. The terms note that even when your subscription ends, your account remains active so you can buy services again later. To come back, log in on the website, go to the Subscription page in My Account and choose Resume Subscription, Add Subscription or Add Voucher. Neon’s help centre notes that this cannot be done through the app, and that you may need to validate your card or apply a voucher before you can watch again.
Generally, no. Neon’s terms state that it does not generally provide refunds for prepaid Neon services. That applies to the part of a month left after you cancel a monthly plan.
The annual plan works the same way. Neon’s help centre states that if you cancel any time before your annual plan renews, you will not be eligible for a refund, but you can keep watching until the 12 months are up. Movie rentals are non-refundable under Neon’s terms.
There are narrow exceptions. If Neon itself ends your subscription, its terms commit to a pro-rata refund for charges you have already paid. Your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 also remain in place; Neon’s terms state that nothing in them affects those rights. For subscriptions bought through Apple, Apple lets you request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com, and Google Play accepts refund requests for in-app purchases and subscriptions, though approval is not guaranteed.
At the time of writing, Neon’s help centre does not describe a pause option for subscriptions. If you want to spend less rather than leave, you have two practical alternatives.
Upgrades take effect immediately, with the charge adjusted for the rest of the billing period. Neon also notes that you cannot change plan more than once in the same billing cycle. If you plan to be away for a few months, cancelling and then resuming later is the simplest way to stop paying in the meantime.
At the time of writing, Neon’s help centre does not describe a standing free trial. Instead, it publishes separate terms for each introductory offer, so check the terms of the offer you signed up with. Its published offer terms state that if you cancel during a discounted introductory period, your plan ends on your next bill date. After an offer finishes, the plan continues at the standard price until you cancel.
To avoid being charged, cancel on the website before the offer period ends. If your trial or offer was taken through Apple, Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before a free or discounted trial ends if you do not want it to renew.
Cancelling your subscription and deleting your account are different things. Cancelling stops future charges, but your account and details remain so you can return later.
If you want your account details removed permanently, Neon’s terms state that you can do so by sending a request to help@neontv.co.nz. Its help centre also says you can ask for personal information to be removed by contacting Neon through chat or email. Cancel your paid plan first, then make the deletion request, and keep a copy of your email.
| Problem | Likely Cause | What To Do |
| No Cancel option in the Neon app | Subscriptions are managed on the website | Log in to My Account in a web browser and open Plan and Payment |
| Cannot find Plan and Payment on a phone | The mobile menu is collapsed | Tap the menu in the top left corner of the website |
| Neon says you cannot cancel the Bundle Pass | Billing is through Sky Sport Now | Cancel under My Account and Subscriptions on the Sky Sport Now website |
| Charge from Spark after cancelling | Neon is billed to your Spark plan | Contact Spark customer service |
| Charge from Apple or Google | Subscription was taken through an app store | Cancel in Apple Subscriptions or Google Play Subscriptions |
| Still charged after uninstalling the app | Removing the app does not cancel | Cancel through the service that bills you |
| Cannot watch after resuming | Card or voucher needs validating | Update your payment details in My Account or add a voucher |
First, check the date. If you cancelled after your billing date had already passed, the charge may be for the new period that had started before you cancelled. Next, check the merchant name on your statement, since a charge from Sky Sport Now, Spark, Apple or Google has to be raised with that company, not Neon.
If the charge is from Neon and came after you cancelled, contact Neon through live chat or by lodging a support ticket in its help centre, and include your account email, the cancellation date and a copy of any confirmation email. Keep a written record of every contact.
If you cannot resolve it with Neon, New Zealand consumer law gives you options. The government’s Consumer Protection service advises contacting the business first and gathering evidence such as receipts, emails and screenshots. Under the Consumer Guarantees Act, services must be carried out with reasonable care and skill. If you still cannot agree, you can take a claim to the Disputes Tribunal, which Consumer Protection describes as a quick and inexpensive way to resolve disputes, with a referee who can make a binding decision.
No. Neon’s terms say you cancel on the Neon website, and its help centre notes that plan changes and resuming are done in a browser, not the app. Log in to My Account on the website to cancel.
No. You can keep watching until the end of the period you have already paid for. On the annual plan, that means until the 12 months are up.
Neon states that annual subscribers who cancel before renewal are not eligible for a refund, but can keep watching until the plan expires. Your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act still apply if the service itself is faulty.
At the time of writing, Neon lists Basic with Ads at NZ$14.99 a month, Standard at NZ$23.99 a month and the Standard Annual Plan at NZ$239.99 a year. Neon’s terms commit to at least 30 days’ notice of any increase to recurring charges.
Yes. Your account stays active, so you can log in on the website, open the Subscription page and choose Resume Subscription or Add Subscription.
No. To delete your account details permanently, email a request to help@neontv.co.nz after cancelling.
Cancelling Neon takes a couple of minutes once you know who bills you. If you pay Neon directly, log in on the website and cancel under Plan & Payment; if you pay through Sky Sport Now, Spark, Apple or Google, cancel with them. Either way you keep watching until your paid period ends, but you should not expect a refund for the unused time.
If you only want to spend less, a downgrade to Basic with Ads or a retention discount may suit you better than leaving. And if something goes wrong, keep records, contact Neon first, and remember that your rights under New Zealand consumer law still apply.
