David Achord
Attorney at law
Please introduce your law practice and describe your role within it.
I am Attorney David Achord. I have been practicing law for more than 20 years. During that time, I have helped recover more than $100 million for clients. My role is both legal and operational. I work directly with clients, oversee case strategy, manage firm operations, and make sure every case receives the attention it deserves. I am responsible for maintaining standards and ensuring that clients receive clear communication throughout the process.
What is the operating model of your law practice? Do you rely on an in-house team, outside vendors, or a hybrid approach?
My practice uses a hybrid approach. Core legal work is handled internally because case strategy, client communication, and legal analysis require direct oversight. We also work with outside professionals when specialized expertise is needed, such as investigators, medical experts, accident reconstruction professionals, and other consultants. The goal is to build the right team around each case rather than forcing every case into the same structure.
How does your practice differentiate itself in a competitive legal market?
The biggest difference is experience and consistency. I have spent more than two decades handling legal matters and have recovered over $100 million for clients. I focus on direct communication and realistic expectations. Clients are often dealing with difficult situations. They do not need exaggerated promises. They need clear answers and someone who is willing to put in the work.
What types of clients and legal matters do you primarily serve today?
My practice focuses on helping individuals who need legal representation and guidance. Over time, my experience has allowed me to handle a wide variety of situations and develop systems that improve efficiency while maintaining personal attention. While laws and procedures change, the core mission remains the same: helping clients navigate complex legal challenges.
What are the services clients most frequently seek from your practice?
Most clients come to me because they need experienced legal representation and someone who can guide them through a process that may be unfamiliar to them. They want answers, communication, and advocacy. They are often looking for someone who can simplify a complicated situation and help them make informed decisions.
How do you stay ahead of changes in the legal industry?
The law is constantly evolving, so continuous learning is part of the job. I spend time reviewing legal developments, court decisions, and industry trends. I also have a strong interest in technology and have spent more than eight years researching cryptocurrency and emerging financial systems. That habit of continuous research helps me stay informed and adaptable.
Do you have a significant percentage of repeat clients or referrals? What drives that loyalty?
A large portion of new business comes from referrals. In legal services, trust is everything. People refer friends and family when they believe someone was treated fairly and professionally. Clear communication, responsiveness, and consistent results are major factors. I focus on relationships, not transactions.
How do you measure client satisfaction?
The most important indicators are client feedback, referrals, and long-term reputation. If former clients continue recommending the firm years later, that tells me we handled the case correctly and treated them with respect. Satisfaction is not just about the final outcome. It is also about the experience throughout the process.
What kind of support do you provide after a matter is resolved?
I remain available to answer reasonable follow-up questions and help clients understand any remaining issues related to their case. Legal matters do not always end the day paperwork is completed. People often need guidance afterward, and I believe being accessible is important.
How do you structure fees and billing?
Fee structures depend on the type of legal matter involved. Different cases require different approaches. The objective is always transparency. Clients should understand how fees work before moving forward so there are no surprises later.
What is the typical value range of matters your firm handles, and how do you balance value with affordability?
Case values vary significantly depending on the facts and circumstances involved. There is no universal number that applies to every situation. My focus is on providing value through experience, preparation, and attention to detail. Clients should understand what they are receiving and why it matters.
Have you ever declined cases based on scope or fit?
Yes. Not every matter is the right fit. I am selective about cases because I want to ensure that I can provide the level of service clients deserve. If a case falls outside my area of experience or if expectations are unrealistic, it is often better for everyone involved to be honest from the beginning.
What have been the biggest challenges in recent years, and how have you addressed them?
One challenge has been adapting to rapid changes in technology and client expectations. People expect faster communication and greater transparency than ever before. The solution has been to improve systems, embrace technology where appropriate, and maintain a strong focus on responsiveness.
How do you encourage innovation in your practice?
Innovation starts with curiosity. I am always looking for ways to improve efficiency, communication, and client service. That same mindset is what led me to study cryptocurrency and emerging technologies for many years. I believe professionals should continue learning regardless of how long they have been in their field.
What role does culture play in your success?
Culture is important because it affects every interaction. I value professionalism, accountability, and respect. Clients are often dealing with stressful situations. The environment around them should reduce confusion, not add to it.
Where do you see your practice and charitable initiatives in the next five to ten years?
I plan to continue serving clients while expanding my charitable work. I am actively developing Shoes for Kids and Water for Life. Shoes for Kids has already helped deliver more than 500 pairs of shoes to children in Africa. Water for Life is focused on providing long-lasting water filtration systems to communities that need clean drinking water. I would like both initiatives to grow into sustainable organizations that create measurable impact.
How has your leadership style changed throughout your career?
Early in my career, I focused heavily on technical skills and legal knowledge. Over time, I learned that communication, patience, and listening are equally important. Experience teaches you that leadership is not about having all the answers. It is about making sound decisions and helping others navigate challenges effectively.
What emerging technologies or industry changes are you most interested in today?
I am particularly interested in cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, and other developments that may influence business and financial systems. I have spent more than eight years researching and following that space. Regardless of where the technology ultimately goes, it is important to understand how innovation affects society and the legal landscape.
What advice would you give to young attorneys and business leaders?
Focus on consistency. Most careers are built through years of disciplined effort, not a single breakthrough moment. Keep learning, communicate clearly, and protect your reputation. One lesson that has stayed with me throughout my career is simple: preparation matters. Whether I was studying at UC Davis School of Law, preparing for the California Bar Exam, or handling a client matter, the work you do before an opportunity arrives often determines the outcome.
