Short answer: on an iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose Apple Music and tap Cancel Subscription. On any other device, sign in at music.apple.com, open your account, choose Settings, then Manage under Subscriptions, then Cancel Subscription. Do it at least one day before your renewal date (24 hours before a free trial ends). If Apple Music is part of Apple One, cancel or change the Apple One bundle instead, and if Google Play or your phone carrier bills you, cancel with them.
Apple Music itself takes under a minute to cancel. The trouble is that it reaches people through so many doors: a direct subscription, an Apple One bundle, a free trial that came with new AirPods, a perk on a Verizon plan, a Google Play purchase on an Android phone. Each of those is cancelled in a different place, and cancelling in the wrong one either does nothing or leaves a second charge running.
This guide covers every route, the 2026 prices after Apple’s July increase, what happens to your library and downloaded songs, and how to ask Apple for a refund if a renewal slipped through.
Before you open any menu, find the Apple Music charge on your bank statement or phone bill. The name on the charge tells you where the cancel button lives.
| What your statement says | Who bills you | Where to cancel |
| APPLE.COM/BILL, Apple Music | Apple directly | iPhone Settings, Mac App Store, music.apple.com or the Apple Music app |
| APPLE.COM/BILL, Apple One | Apple, as part of a bundle | Subscriptions, then Apple One (not Apple Music) |
| GOOGLE *Apple Music | Google Play | Play Store, then Payments and subscriptions |
| Apple Music on your Verizon bill | Verizon | My Verizon, in your plan perks or add-ons |
| Another carrier or internet provider bill | That provider | The provider’s account page or support line |
| No charge at all yet | A free trial or device offer | Settings, then Subscriptions, before the trial ends |
Apple raised Apple Music prices in July 2026, the first increase since 2022. Individual went up $1, Student went up $1 and Family went up $3. Existing subscribers move to the new price at a billing cycle after the change, so if your last charge still shows the old figure, the next one may not.
| Plan | US price from July 2026 | Before July 2026 | Who it covers |
| Individual | $11.99 a month | $10.99 | One person |
| Family | $19.99 a month | $16.99 | Up to six people through Family Sharing |
| Student | $6.99 a month | $5.99 | One verified student; includes Apple TV at no extra cost |
| Voice | Discontinued | $4.99 | Closed to everyone since November 2023 |
| Apple One Individual | $21.95 a month | $19.95 earlier in 2026 | Music, Apple TV, Arcade and 50GB iCloud+ |
| Free trial | $0 for one month | Same | New subscribers only; converts to paid automatically |
If you are searching for the Apple Music Voice plan because you think you still pay for it, you do not. Apple turned off auto-renew for every Voice subscriber when it ended the plan in November 2023, so a charge today is for a different plan. Some accounts also see an annual Individual option in the Subscriptions screen; prices for that vary, so check the figure Apple shows you rather than any number quoted online.
The Student plan detail matters when you cancel: it bundles Apple TV, so ending Apple Music Student ends that Apple TV access too.
Apple’s rule is simple and strict: cancel at least one day before the renewal date, and at least 24 hours before a free trial ends. Inside that window, the renewal may already be processing and you will be charged for another month.
There is no prorated refund for the unused part of a month, so the best moment to cancel is a few days before renewal: you get everything you paid for and stay clear of the cutoff.
This is the fastest route for most people, and it works whichever app you originally signed up in.
You can also start from inside the Music app: tap your profile picture and look for Manage Subscription, which opens the same screen. When the cancellation goes through, the entry changes from “Renews” to “Expires” with a date. If the Cancel button is missing entirely, the subscription has already been cancelled or someone other than Apple bills you.
On a Mac, subscriptions are managed in the App Store rather than the Music app’s settings.
In the Music app itself, Account, then Account Settings leads to the same Subscriptions section if you prefer to start there.
The web player is the route to use on a Chromebook, a work computer or anyone else’s device, and it is the official fallback when you no longer have an Apple device.
Apple’s help centre says that if this does not work, you should cancel in Settings on an Apple device instead.
On a Windows PC, use the Apple Music app (or iTunes on older setups).
In iTunes for Windows, the same path starts from Account, then View My Account, then Settings.
Android is where most “I cannot find the cancel button” problems happen, because there are two possible billers. Check your statement: an APPLE.COM/BILL charge means Apple bills you, and a GOOGLE charge means Google Play does.
The menu layout shifts between app versions, so if you cannot see it, cancel at music.apple.com in Chrome instead. It is the same subscription.
You can do the same at play.google.com in a browser. Apple cannot cancel a Google Play subscription for you, and any refund request for it goes to Google.
Switch to the profile of the person who pays first. The same list shows Apple TV, Apple Arcade and any other Apple subscriptions on that account. If you want to drop the TV service too, our guide on how to cancel Apple TV covers it.
This is the edge case behind most failed cancellations. If you pay for Apple One, Apple Music is not a separate subscription, so there is no Apple Music entry to cancel. You cancel or change the bundle.
| Apple One plan | US price | Includes |
| Individual | $21.95 a month | Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple Arcade, iCloud+ 50GB |
| Family | $27.95 a month | The same, with iCloud+ 200GB, shared with up to five others |
| Premier | $39.95 a month | Adds Apple Fitness+, Apple News+ and iCloud+ 2TB |
Watch the iCloud+ step carefully. If you drop it and your photos and backups use more than the free 5GB, they stop syncing. Apple One also follows the same deadline: cancel at least a day before the monthly renewal. Compare individual prices first; the bundle is often cheaper than two of its parts.
New subscribers get one month of Apple Music free on the Individual, Family and Student plans. The trial turns into a paid plan automatically, so the Apple Music free trial is where most surprise charges begin.
Cancelling a trial can end access immediately rather than on the trial’s last day, depending on the offer. That is far safer than cancelling on the final evening.
Promotional Apple Music lasts longer than the standard trial, which makes the renewal date even easier to forget. Where you cancel depends on who funded the offer.
| Offer | Who bills after it ends | How to cancel |
| Free months with new AirPods, Beats, HomePod, iPhone, iPad or Mac | Apple, at $11.99 a month | Settings, then Subscriptions, at least a day before renewal |
| Retail and gift codes (Target, Shazam and similar) | Apple | Settings, then Subscriptions |
| Verizon plan perk or promotional months | Verizon, on your phone bill | My Verizon, in perks or add-ons |
| Apple One included with a carrier plan | The carrier | The carrier’s account page; changing plan may start billing |
| Other carrier or internet provider bundles | That provider | The provider, not Apple |
Device offers. Apple’s current US terms give new subscribers three months free with an eligible new device, including AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, HomePod and a range of Beats headphones and speakers. You have 90 days after setting up or pairing the device to claim it in the Music app. By claiming, you agree to a $11.99 monthly subscription that starts when the free period ends and renews until you cancel. Past promotions have run as long as six months, so read the end date on your own Subscriptions screen.
Verizon. Verizon includes Apple Music or Apple One on some plans, and offers it as a paid perk or a time-limited promotion on others. It appears under Services on your Verizon bill, at no charge during a promotion and at the normal perk price afterwards. Verizon says you cancel through My Verizon, and that if you change plans you will be charged monthly unless you cancel first. If you already paid Apple directly when you added the Verizon offer, the app prompts you to cancel one of the two; check both places so you are not paying twice. Your library carries over as long as you use the same Apple Account.
If price is the problem rather than the service, the Subscriptions screen lets you change plan without cancelling. Moving from Family at $19.99 to Individual at $11.99 saves $8 a month if nobody else in the household uses it. Students can move to the $6.99 Student plan after verifying enrolment. Your library stays in place when you switch.

Nothing changes until the expiry date. After that, Apple’s help pages describe the following:
| Item | After your subscription expires |
| Streaming the Apple Music catalogue | Stops |
| Songs downloaded from Apple Music for offline listening | Stop playing; they are tied to an active subscription |
| Playlists built from Apple Music songs | No longer available |
| Sync Library (your library across devices) | Turns off automatically |
| Songs and albums you bought in the iTunes Store | Stay yours; redownload them any time |
| Music you had on your device before you subscribed | Still available |
| Apple TV access on the Student plan | Ends with the subscription |
So, if you cancel Apple Music, will you lose your library? The streamed and downloaded Apple Music parts of it, yes. Your purchases, and files you imported yourself and still have on your device, no. Two practical steps before the expiry date:
If you resubscribe later with the same Apple Account, much of your library usually reappears, but Apple does not promise to keep it indefinitely, so do not rely on that as a backup.
Almost everyone only needs to cancel. Deleting an Apple Account is drastic and permanent, and it affects every Apple device and service you use.
| Cancel Apple Music | Delete Apple Account | |
| Stops the Apple Music charge | Yes | Yes |
| Keeps iTunes purchases | Yes | No, all purchases are lost |
| Keeps iCloud photos, email and backups | Yes | No |
| Affects your iPhone, iPad and Mac | No | Yes, you lose access to Apple services on them |
| Reversible | Yes, resubscribe any time | No |
| Where to do it | Settings, then Subscriptions | Apple’s Data and Privacy site |
Apple does not refund the unused part of a month when you cancel, but you can ask for a refund on a renewal you did not mean to pay for. Eligibility varies by country, and Apple decides case by case.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
| Apple Music is not in Subscriptions | You pay through Apple One, Google Play or a carrier | Check the statement descriptor and cancel with that biller |
| No Cancel button | Already cancelled, or billed by someone else | Look for “Expires” instead of “Renews”; if neither, check Google and your carrier |
| Charged the day you cancelled | Cancelled inside a day of renewal | Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com |
| Charged months after cancelling | A second Apple Account, or a family member’s subscription | Sign in to each Apple Account; check Family Sharing purchases |
| Charged after the AirPods or Beats offer | The device offer converted to $11.99 a month | Cancel now and request a refund for the first charge |
| Paying Apple and Verizon at the same time | Old Apple subscription not cancelled when the perk started | Cancel the Apple-billed one in Settings |
| Price went up without notice | The July 2026 increase reached your billing cycle | Switch to a cheaper plan or cancel before the next renewal |
On an iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Apple Music, then Cancel Subscription. On any other device, use music.apple.com, then your account, Settings, and Manage under Subscriptions.
Sign in at music.apple.com in any browser, or use the Apple Music app on Android or Windows. If Google Play bills you, cancel in the Play Store.
You lose songs streamed or downloaded from Apple Music and playlists built from them once the subscription expires. iTunes purchases and music you already had before subscribing stay.
In the US, $11.99 for Individual, $19.99 for Family and $6.99 for Student, following the July 2026 increase.
Usually because you pay for Apple One, or because Google Play or your phone carrier bills you. Cancel the bundle or cancel with that company.
Cancel in Subscriptions at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Access may stop right away, but you will not be charged.
You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple reviews each request and answers within 24 to 48 hours; unused time after a mid-month cancellation is not refunded automatically.
Only if they are bundled: Apple Music Student includes Apple TV, and Apple One includes both. A separate Apple TV subscription is not affected.
No. Apple discontinued it in November 2023 and turned off auto-renew for existing Voice subscribers.
