Short answer: To cancel Match.com, sign in at match.com or in the Match app, open Settings (the gear icon) > Manage Subscription, re-enter your password and turn off auto-renewal from Subscription Status. If you subscribed with your Apple ID or on Google Play, cancel with Apple or Google instead, because Match’s terms say they handle it. The catch: Match subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, and hiding or deleting your profile is a separate step from stopping the payment.
If you are looking up how to cancel Match.com, the good news is that most Match members pay Match directly, which means the cancel option is inside your own account rather than buried in an app store. This guide covers every route as of October 2026, checked against Match’s help center and its Terms of Use (effective 9 December 2025): the website and app, Apple and Google billing, add-ons, free trials, refunds, the three-business-day right to cancel in 12 US states, and how hiding or deleting your profile differs from canceling. It also explains what Match Group agreed to in its 2025 settlement with the Federal Trade Commission. For a wider look at recurring charges, see our guide on how to cancel subscriptions online.
| Where you signed up or what your statement says | Who bills you | Where to cancel |
|---|---|---|
| Subscribed on match.com, or in the app by card, PayPal or Buy Now Pay Later | Match | Settings > Manage Subscription > Subscription Status |
| Subscribed in the iPhone app with your Apple ID (“Apple.com/bill”) | Apple | iPhone Settings > your name > Subscriptions > Match |
| Subscribed in the Android app through Google Play | Play Store > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions | |
| A paid add-on (for example a feature added to your plan) | Whoever bills your plan | Subscription Status > Deactivate next to the feature |
Match’s help center lists four subscription tiers, each including the one below it:
Plans come in 1, 3, 6 or 12-month lengths. Match’s billing article explains that the monthly figure on the sign-up page is only for comparison: the full plan price is charged once at the start. Its own example is a 6-month plan shown at $20.00 per month, which is a single $120.00 charge. Match does not publish fixed prices in its help center, so check the “Review Your Subscription” total or your Subscription Status page for your actual amount. Match also says subscriptions cannot be paused once active.
If you pay Match directly, which covers everyone who subscribed on the website and app users who paid by card, PayPal or Buy Now Pay Later, you cancel by turning off auto-renewal. Match’s Terms of Use put it simply: to cancel a subscription, log in to the website or app and go to the Account section.
Match’s Canceling a Match Subscription article also links straight to the Manage Subscription page and includes a short video. Take a screenshot of the final screen. One note from Match: if you cancel a Platinum subscription, you cannot currently downgrade to Silver or Bronze in the same step, so you would need to buy the lower plan separately later.
Match’s help center says that when you subscribe in the iOS app with your Apple account, Apple manages billing, and Match cannot change billing, turn off auto-renewal or issue refunds for it.
Match’s help also describes the same path from the App Store: tap your profile icon at the top right, then Subscriptions. Apple’s instructions for Mac and web are on its cancel a subscription from Apple page. Apple says that no cancel button, or a red expiration message, means the plan is already canceled. This is the same Apple menu that handles Apple TV and other App Store subscriptions.
Match’s Terms of Use say that if you subscribed on Google Play, cancellation is handled by Google. Match’s help center does not publish Android-specific billing steps, so use Google’s own process:
Google says uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription. If Match is not listed, check your other Google Accounts, or you may be paying Match directly. The same Play Store screen is where you would stop other Android subscriptions, such as Spotify Premium or YouTube Premium bought through Google.
Paid add-ons renew on their own schedule. To stop one, Match says:
Match says add-ons stay active until their end date and then do not renew.
On the web, open Manage Subscription in Account Settings, re-enter your password and complete every step to cancel. Match says canceling a free trial ends your access immediately. You can turn it back on before the trial ends, but doing so also switches auto-renewal back on.
Match’s help center says all Match subscriptions include auto-renewal, and its terms say a subscription will automatically renew, and you will be charged, until you cancel. Promotional rates apply only to the first period. Match says you can turn off auto-renewal at any time after purchase, and its terms do not set a fixed lead time, so the safe move is to cancel well before the renewal date shown on Subscription Status. Apple and Google apply their own store rules to plans they bill.
Match’s help center says that generally its subscriptions are non-refundable, and its terms say generally all purchases are nonrefundable. The terms also say you are not entitled to a refund if your account is closed, whether by you or by Match, apart from exceptions under state law. There are still real routes, depending on how you paid and where you live.
Match’s Terms of Use give residents of Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island and Wisconsin the right to cancel before midnight of the third business day after subscribing. Written notice goes to Match, Attn: Cancellations, P.O. Box 25472, Dallas, Texas 75225, USA. California and Ohio residents may also fax 972-892-9570. For subscribers in those states, the terms also give a pro-rated refund to an estate if a subscriber dies, or to a subscriber who becomes disabled and cannot use the service, requested the same way.
Match cannot refund Apple billing. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com: sign in, choose I’d like to > Request a refund, pick a reason, select the Match charge and submit. Apple says to expect an update within about 24 to 48 hours.
On play.google.com, open your profile, then Payments & subscriptions > Budget & order history, find the Match order and choose Report a problem. Google says that if more than 48 hours have passed since an in-app purchase, you should contact the developer.
Submit a request through Match’s online support form at help.match.com. Match says it does not offer phone support and warns that some websites list fake Match phone numbers.
Match’s terms say virtual items are non-refundable and that purchases and redemptions of virtual items are final, even when an account is closed.
On 12 August 2025, the FTC announced that Match Group had agreed to pay $14 million to resolve FTC charges over advertising, cancellation and billing practices at Match.com and other Match Group sites. According to the FTC’s press release, Match Group agreed to provide simple ways for consumers to cancel and to simplify Match.com’s cancellation process, to clearly disclose the terms of its “six-month guarantee”, and to stop taking adverse action against people who file billing disputes. The FTC’s case page lists the order as proposed, and the case status as pending, as of October 2026.
The guarantee promised a free six months to some subscribers who did not meet someone special. The proposed order requires Match to disclose, where applicable, that to qualify you must set up a public profile with an approved primary photo within the first seven days, message five unique subscribers each month, and redeem the free six months through Match’s progress page during the final week of your initial subscription. Match’s current help center does not describe a guarantee program, so if your plan included one, check the terms you were shown at purchase or ask Match support.
The FTC page does not describe a refund or claims process for consumers yet. If one opens, it will appear on the FTC’s refunds pages.
| Option | Stops billing? | Profile visible? | Messages and matches | Undo? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cancel subscription (turn off auto-renewal) | Yes, from the next renewal | Yes, as a free member after the term | Kept | Reactivate before the term ends, or resubscribe |
| Hide your profile | No; it is a visibility setting | No, removed from search and new members cannot view it | Earlier threads still accessible | Unhide any time |
| Cancel membership (close account) | Only once auto-renewal is off; Match lists it for members who are not subscribed or have turned off auto-renewal | No, profile and photos hidden | Retained under Match’s privacy policy | Sign back in to reactivate |
| Delete My Account | Not stated by Match; cancel first | No | Permanently removed | No, and no confirmation email is sent |
| Delete the app | No | Yes | Kept | Reinstall |
To delete or hide: open Settings (gear icon) > Manage Account > Delete Account, then choose Hide your account or Delete My Account. Match’s terms say canceling your subscription does not remove your profile, and that Apple or Google billing must be canceled with them even if you have deleted your account or the app. Turn off auto-renewal first, then delete.
| Problem | Why it happens | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Manage Subscription shows no plan to cancel | Apple or Google bills you | Cancel in iPhone Settings or the Play Store |
| Match is not in my Apple or Google list | You pay Match directly, or used another store account | Check Subscription Status on match.com |
| I hid or deleted my profile and was still charged | Hiding and deleting do not turn off auto-renewal | Turn off auto-renewal or cancel in the store, then contact support about the charge |
| I canceled my trial and lost access at once | Match ends trial access immediately on cancel | Expected; turning it back on also turns auto-renewal on |
| I was charged the full 6-month price | Match bills the whole plan upfront | Check the plan length on Subscription Status before it renews |
| Cannot downgrade from Platinum | Match does not currently support downgrading on cancel | Let Platinum end, then buy the lower plan |
| Someone gave me a Match phone number | Match offers no phone support | Use only the form at help.match.com and never share payment details |
Keep a written record: screenshots of Subscription Status showing auto-renewal off, receipt emails and support request numbers. If charges continue after you have canceled with the right biller, dispute them with Apple, Google or your card issuer, and ask your bank about blocking future charges from that merchant as a backstop. You can report a business that will not stop recurring charges to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov or to your state attorney general.
The FTC’s nationwide click-to-cancel rule was vacated by the Eighth Circuit in July 2025, but the federal Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act (ROSCA) still covers online subscriptions, and California and other states have automatic renewal laws. This is general information, not legal advice.
Sign in, go to Settings > Manage Subscription, re-enter your password and turn off auto-renewal from Subscription Status. If Apple or Google bills you, cancel with them instead.
Tap the Profile icon, then the gear icon, Manage Account > Manage Subscription, enter your password and open Subscription Status. For Apple billing, use iPhone Settings > Subscriptions.
Match does not say it does. Its terms say canceling does not remove your profile, and that Apple or Google plans must be canceled with them even after you delete your account, so turn off auto-renewal first.
Generally no, but residents of 12 US states can cancel within three business days of subscribing, and Apple and Google review refund requests for purchases they billed.
Yes, for a paid subscription you keep it until the end of your current term. A canceled free trial ends immediately.
No. Match says support is only through its online form and warns about fake phone numbers on other websites.
No. Match says subscriptions cannot be paused once active. You can hide your profile, but billing continues.
Match bills the full plan price upfront; the monthly rate shown at checkout is only for comparison.
No. Match’s terms say virtual items are non-refundable.
Match Group agreed to pay $14 million, simplify cancellation, clearly disclose its six-month guarantee terms and stop penalizing people who dispute charges, according to the FTC.
