Short answer: sign in at chegg.com on a computer or mobile browser, click My Account, then Orders, scroll to Subscriptions, choose your plan and click Cancel Subscription, then work through every confirmation screen until Chegg shows that the plan will end. Do it before your next renewal date, ideally a day or two early. If there is no Cancel option, Apple or Google is billing you and you cancel in the App Store or Google Play instead.
Chegg is one of those subscriptions people sign up for in a panic the night before an exam and then forget about for a whole semester. Cancelling Chegg Study or Chegg Study Pack takes a few minutes, but the app does not always let you do it, retention offers sit between you and the final button, and textbook rentals have nothing to do with the subscription at all.
This guide covers every route: cancelling on the Chegg website, ending a plan that Apple or Google bills, the pause option, the free trial, what happens to your access afterwards, the difference between cancelling and deleting your account, and when a Chegg refund is realistic.
Where you cancel depends on where you signed up. Check the charge on your bank or card statement before you do anything else, because Chegg cannot cancel a plan that an app store controls.
| What your statement says | Who bills you | Where to cancel |
| CHEGG, CHEGG.COM or CHEGG ORDER | Chegg directly | chegg.com, then My Account, then Orders |
| APPLE.COM/BILL | Apple App Store | iPhone Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions |
| GOOGLE *Chegg | Google Play | Play Store, then Payments and subscriptions |
| PayPal, then Chegg | Chegg, paid through PayPal | chegg.com first; removing the PayPal billing agreement alone does not cancel the plan |
| A school, campus store or employer | A partner programme | The partner that issued the access, then Chegg support |
| Two Chegg charges in one month | Two plans or two accounts | Check Orders in every Chegg login you have |
Chegg now sells two main study subscriptions in the US. Chegg Study covers homework and textbook solutions, and Chegg Study Pack adds quiz and exam help, expert proofreading, plagiarism detection and math help on top. Both are billed monthly by default and renew automatically until you cancel.
| Plan | US price | What it includes | Renews |
| Chegg Study | $15.95 a month | Homework and textbook solutions | Every month until cancelled |
| Chegg Study Pack | $19.95 a month | Solutions plus quiz and exam help, proofreading, plagiarism checks and math help | Every month until cancelled |
| Free trial or promo | $0 or a reduced first period | Usually the same features as the paid plan | Converts to the full price automatically |
| App store subscription | Set by Apple or Google | Same plans, bought in the Chegg app | Managed in the app store, not by Chegg |
Chegg changes plan names, bundles and promotional pricing often, and older add-ons such as Chegg Writing and Chegg Math Solver have been folded into the Study Pack. Prices can also differ inside the iPhone and Android apps and outside the US. The amount shown in My Account, under Orders, is the one that actually renews, so treat that as the real figure.
Chegg’s terms say subscriptions renew automatically at the same or then-current rate, and your payment method is charged on each renewal date until you cancel. Cancelling stops future charges, and you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
The safest habit is to cancel as soon as the semester’s last assignment is in, then let the access run out on its own.
This is the route for anyone Chegg bills directly, which is most subscribers. It works in any desktop browser and in a phone browser, and it is the most reliable way to cancel a Chegg subscription.
If you have several plans, for example an old add-on alongside Chegg Study, repeat the steps for each one. Cancelling one subscription does not cancel the others. Once you are done, reload the Orders page: it should show an end date, not a next billing date.
If you subscribed through an in-app purchase in the Chegg app on iOS, Apple holds the subscription. Chegg’s terms say app store purchases must be managed and cancelled through the app store’s own settings. The tell is a charge reading APPLE.COM/BILL.
Apple keeps the plan running to the end of the paid period, and refund requests for Apple-billed plans go to Apple through its problem reporting page, not to Chegg. App store subscriptions also cannot use Chegg’s pause feature.
The same logic applies if you bought the plan through Google Play.
Uninstalling the Chegg app does not cancel anything on either platform. The subscription lives in your Apple Account, Google account or Chegg account, not on the phone.
This is where most people get stuck. They open the Chegg app, look through the settings and find no way to end the plan. There are two reasons:
A third, rarer case is signing in with Google or Apple on one device and with an email address on another, which creates two separate Chegg accounts. If Orders shows no subscription but you are still being charged, sign in with every method you have used.
Chegg runs free trials and discounted first months on and off, often around the start of term. A trial needs a payment method and converts to a paid monthly plan automatically when it ends, unless you cancel. Chegg’s terms require it to show the recurring price, billing frequency and length of any promotional period before you enrol, so the trial end date is on your sign-up screen and in My Account.
You normally keep trial access until the trial period runs out even after cancelling, so there is no reason to wait. Set a calendar reminder the moment you sign up, and do not count on getting a second free trial on the same account later.
If you only need a break over summer or between semesters, Chegg lets website subscribers pause a plan for up to six months. The option appears in the cancellation flow and in Orders.
Chegg’s original business was renting textbooks, and many students have a rental and a study subscription on the same account. They are completely separate orders.
Some people cancel because they hit a device or sharing block, so it is worth knowing the rules. Chegg’s terms say accounts cannot be shared and that Chegg may impose reasonable limits on access, including the number of machines used. In practice, subscribers report a small number of registered devices and a limit on how often devices can be swapped.
| Item | What happens |
| Access to solutions and expert Q&A | Continues until the end of the period you paid for, then stops |
| Unused monthly questions | Do not roll over or carry to a future plan; use them before the end date |
| Questions you already asked and bookmarks | Stay in your account, but you may need an active plan to view full answers |
| Textbook rentals | Unaffected; still due back on their own date |
| Your Chegg account and login | Stay open, with order history and saved details |
| Future charges | Stop; the Orders page should show an end date |
If you want to rejoin later, you can resubscribe from the same account at whatever the price is at that time. Retention discounts offered during cancellation do not usually apply once you have gone through with it.
Searches for how to delete a Chegg account usually come from people who just want the charges to stop. Cancelling does that. Deleting is a separate, permanent step for when you want your data gone.
| Cancel subscription | Delete Chegg account | |
| Stops subscription charges | Yes | Only if you cancel first; do not rely on deletion alone |
| Keeps your login | Yes | No |
| Keeps order history and past questions | Yes | No, removed after a review period |
| Affects textbook rentals | No | Return rentals first or charges can still follow |
| Reversible | Yes, resubscribe any time | No |
| Where to do it | My Account, then Orders | Chegg’s privacy request form or customer support |
To delete your Chegg account properly, cancel every subscription first, return any rentals, download anything you want to keep, then submit a deletion request through the privacy section of Chegg’s site or through support. Chegg’s terms note that it may keep certain information where the law allows, for example to complete transactions or resolve disputes, and content you posted publicly may stay up.
Sometimes, but do not count on it. Chegg subscriptions are prepaid, cancelling stops the next renewal rather than refunding the current one, and partial months are not normally prorated. The situations where a refund is realistic are:
Approved refunds generally go back to the original payment method within a few business days, depending on your bank. Chegg may offer account credit or a free month first; you can decline that if you want your money back.
Cancellation is also a regulated issue for Chegg. In September 2025 the Federal Trade Commission announced a $7.5 million settlement over allegations that Chegg made cancelling hard and kept charging some customers after they cancelled. Chegg must now offer a simple cancellation method. If you were billed after cancelling, say so plainly when you contact support, and use a card dispute only as a last resort.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
| Orders still shows a next billing date | You stopped at a retention screen before the final confirmation | Repeat the steps and confirm until an end date appears |
| No Cancel Subscription button | Apple or Google bills you | Cancel in the App Store or Google Play |
| No subscription in Orders, but still charged | A second Chegg account under another email or a Google or Apple sign-in | Sign in with every method you have used and check Orders in each |
| Charged after pausing | The pause period ended and billing restarted | Cancel now and ask support about the latest charge |
| Charged after the free trial | The trial converted to a paid monthly plan | Cancel, then request a refund if you have not used the paid period |
| A charge for a book, not a plan | A late or unreturned textbook rental | Check the rental in Orders and send proof of return to support |
| Locked out and cannot reach Orders | Device limit, password issue or suspension | Reset your password or contact Chegg support to cancel for you |
If none of these explains the charge, contact Chegg support through the Help section, give the date and amount, and attach your cancellation confirmation.
Sign in at chegg.com, click My Account, then Orders, scroll to Subscriptions and click Cancel Subscription, then confirm on every screen. If Apple or Google bills you, cancel in their subscription settings instead.
Only through the app store if you bought it there. For website subscriptions, open chegg.com in your phone’s browser and use My Account, then Orders.
In the US, Chegg Study is $15.95 a month and Chegg Study Pack is $19.95 a month. Check My Account for the price your plan actually renews at.
Chegg offers trials and discounted first months at times, usually around the start of term. They need a payment method and convert to a paid plan automatically unless you cancel before the end date.
Yes, until the end of the billing period you already paid for. After that, solutions and expert Q&A lock again.
Not automatically. Contact support quickly if you were charged for a period you have not used, or charged after cancelling. Apple and Google handle refunds for plans they bill.
Cancel all subscriptions and return any rentals first, then submit a deletion request through Chegg’s privacy section or customer support. Deletion is permanent.
No. Rentals are separate orders and must be returned by their due date, or you may be charged late fees or the cost of the book.
Yes, for up to six months on website subscriptions. Billing restarts automatically when the pause ends. App store plans cannot be paused.
Usually the cancellation was not confirmed, the plan is billed by Apple or Google, or there is a second Chegg account. Use the troubleshooting table above.
