How To Cancel Apple Music In 2026: Every Device And Bundle

Short answer: on an iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose Apple Music and tap Cancel Subscription. On any other device, sign in at music.apple.com, open your account, choose Settings, then Manage under Subscriptions, then Cancel Subscription. Do it at least one day before your renewal date (24 hours before a free trial ends). If Apple Music is part of Apple One, cancel or change the Apple One bundle instead, and if Google Play or your phone carrier bills you, cancel with them.

Apple Music itself takes under a minute to cancel. The trouble is that it reaches people through so many doors: a direct subscription, an Apple One bundle, a free trial that came with new AirPods, a perk on a Verizon plan, a Google Play purchase on an Android phone. Each of those is cancelled in a different place, and cancelling in the wrong one either does nothing or leaves a second charge running.

This guide covers every route, the 2026 prices after Apple’s July increase, what happens to your library and downloaded songs, and how to ask Apple for a refund if a renewal slipped through.

First, Check Who Is Billing You

Before you open any menu, find the Apple Music charge on your bank statement or phone bill. The name on the charge tells you where the cancel button lives.

How Much Apple Music Costs In 2026

Apple raised Apple Music prices in July 2026, the first increase since 2022. Individual went up $1, Student went up $1 and Family went up $3. Existing subscribers move to the new price at a billing cycle after the change, so if your last charge still shows the old figure, the next one may not.

PlanUS price from July 2026Before July 2026Who it covers
    Individual$11.99 a month$10.99One person
Family$19.99 a month$16.99Up to six people through Family Sharing
Student$6.99 a month$5.99One verified student; includes Apple TV at no extra cost
VoiceDiscontinued$4.99Closed to everyone since November 2023
    Apple One Individual$21.95 a month$19.95 earlier in 2026Music, Apple TV, Arcade and 50GB iCloud+
Free trial$0 for one monthSameNew subscribers only; converts to paid automatically

If you are searching for the Apple Music Voice plan because you think you still pay for it, you do not. Apple turned off auto-renew for every Voice subscriber when it ended the plan in November 2023, so a charge today is for a different plan. Some accounts also see an annual Individual option in the Subscriptions screen; prices for that vary, so check the figure Apple shows you rather than any number quoted online.

The Student plan detail matters when you cancel: it bundles Apple TV, so ending Apple Music Student ends that Apple TV access too.

The One Day Deadline Before Renewal

Apple’s rule is simple and strict: cancel at least one day before the renewal date, and at least 24 hours before a free trial ends. Inside that window, the renewal may already be processing and you will be charged for another month.

    • Find your date first. The Apple Music entry in Subscriptions shows “Renews” with a date for a paid plan, or the date the trial ends.
    • A paid plan keeps working until that date. Cancelling on day three of the month does not cut you off on day three; you keep Apple Music until the end of the period you paid for.
    • A trial may end sooner. On some offers, cancelling a trial ends access straight away. Apple shows which applies on the confirmation screen.

There is no prorated refund for the unused part of a month, so the best moment to cancel is a few days before renewal: you get everything you paid for and stay clear of the cutoff.

How To Cancel Apple Music On iPhone Or iPad

This is the fastest route for most people, and it works whichever app you originally signed up in.

    1. Open Settings.
    2. Tap your name at the top of the screen.
    3. Tap Subscriptions. If you do not see it, scroll down or check that you are signed in with the Apple Account that pays for Apple Music.
    4. Tap Apple Music. If you only see Apple One, read the Apple One section below.
    5. Tap Cancel Subscription (you may need to scroll) and confirm.

You can also start from inside the Music app: tap your profile picture and look for Manage Subscription, which opens the same screen. When the cancellation goes through, the entry changes from “Renews” to “Expires” with a date. If the Cancel button is missing entirely, the subscription has already been cancelled or someone other than Apple bills you.

How To Cancel Apple Music On A Mac

On a Mac, subscriptions are managed in the App Store rather than the Music app’s settings.

    1. Open the App Store.
    2. Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, signing in first if needed.
    3. Click your name again on the account page that opens.
    4. Find Subscriptions and click Manage.
    5. Choose Apple Music and click Cancel Subscription.

In the Music app itself, Account, then Account Settings leads to the same Subscriptions section if you prefer to start there.

How To Cancel Apple Music Online At music.apple.com

The web player is the route to use on a Chromebook, a work computer or anyone else’s device, and it is the official fallback when you no longer have an Apple device.

    1. Go to music.apple.com in any browser.
    2. Choose Sign In at the top of the page and sign in with the paying Apple Account.
    3. Click the My Account icon.
    4. Choose Settings.
    5. Scroll to Subscriptions and choose Manage.
    6. Choose Cancel Subscription and confirm.

Apple’s help centre says that if this does not work, you should cancel in Settings on an Apple device instead.

How To Cancel Apple Music On Windows

On a Windows PC, use the Apple Music app (or iTunes on older setups).

    1. Open the Apple Music app and click your name at the bottom of the sidebar.
    2. Choose View My Account. You may need to sign in again.
    3. Click Manage next to Subscriptions.
    4. Select Apple Music and click Edit.
    5. Click Cancel Subscription.

In iTunes for Windows, the same path starts from Account, then View My Account, then Settings.

How To Cancel Apple Music On Android

Android is where most “I cannot find the cancel button” problems happen, because there are two possible billers. Check your statement: an APPLE.COM/BILL charge means Apple bills you, and a GOOGLE charge means Google Play does.

If Apple bills you: use the Apple Music app

    1. Open the Apple Music app on your Android phone or tablet.
    2. Tap the three dots (More) in the top corner.
    3. Tap Account, then Manage Subscription.
    4. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

The menu layout shifts between app versions, so if you cannot see it, cancel at music.apple.com in Chrome instead. It is the same subscription.

If Google Play bills you: use the Play Store

    1. Open the Google Play Store app.
    2. Tap your profile icon, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
    3. Select Apple Music.
    4. Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.

You can do the same at play.google.com in a browser. Apple cannot cancel a Google Play subscription for you, and any refund request for it goes to Google.

How To Cancel Apple Music On An Apple TV Box

    1. Open Settings on the Apple TV box.
    2. Go to Profiles and Accounts (Users and Accounts on older tvOS), then select your profile name.
    3. Select Subscriptions.
    4. Choose Apple Music and follow the onscreen prompts to cancel.

Switch to the profile of the person who pays first. The same list shows Apple TV, Apple Arcade and any other Apple subscriptions on that account. If you want to drop the TV service too, our guide on how to cancel Apple TV covers it.

If Apple Music Comes With Apple One

This is the edge case behind most failed cancellations. If you pay for Apple One, Apple Music is not a separate subscription, so there is no Apple Music entry to cancel. You cancel or change the bundle.

    Apple One planUS priceIncludes
Individual$21.95 a monthApple Music, Apple TV, Apple Arcade, iCloud+ 50GB
Family$27.95 a monthThe same, with iCloud+ 200GB, shared with up to five others
    Premier$39.95 a monthAdds Apple Fitness+, Apple News+ and iCloud+ 2TB
    1. Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions.
    2. Tap Apple One.
    3. Tap Cancel Apple One (or Cancel Subscription).
    4. Choose what to keep. Apple then offers to continue any of the bundled services individually. Untick Apple Music, keep anything you still want, such as iCloud+ storage, and confirm.

Watch the iCloud+ step carefully. If you drop it and your photos and backups use more than the free 5GB, they stop syncing. Apple One also follows the same deadline: cancel at least a day before the monthly renewal. Compare individual prices first; the bundle is often cheaper than two of its parts.

How To Cancel The Apple Music Free Trial

New subscribers get one month of Apple Music free on the Individual, Family and Student plans. The trial turns into a paid plan automatically, so the Apple Music free trial is where most surprise charges begin.

    1. Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions (or use music.apple.com on another device).
    2. Tap Apple Music. The screen shows the date your free trial ends.
    3. Tap Cancel Free Trial or Cancel Subscription and confirm.
    4. Do it at least 24 hours before the trial ends.

Cancelling a trial can end access immediately rather than on the trial’s last day, depending on the offer. That is far safer than cancelling on the final evening.

Free Apple Music From AirPods, Beats, Verizon And Other Partners

Promotional Apple Music lasts longer than the standard trial, which makes the renewal date even easier to forget. Where you cancel depends on who funded the offer.

OfferWho bills after it endsHow to cancel

Device offers. Apple’s current US terms give new subscribers three months free with an eligible new device, including AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, HomePod and a range of Beats headphones and speakers. You have 90 days after setting up or pairing the device to claim it in the Music app. By claiming, you agree to a $11.99 monthly subscription that starts when the free period ends and renews until you cancel. Past promotions have run as long as six months, so read the end date on your own Subscriptions screen.

Verizon. Verizon includes Apple Music or Apple One on some plans, and offers it as a paid perk or a time-limited promotion on others. It appears under Services on your Verizon bill, at no charge during a promotion and at the normal perk price afterwards. Verizon says you cancel through My Verizon, and that if you change plans you will be charged monthly unless you cancel first. If you already paid Apple directly when you added the Verizon offer, the app prompts you to cancel one of the two; check both places so you are not paying twice. Your library carries over as long as you use the same Apple Account.

    Switching Plans Instead Of Cancelling

If price is the problem rather than the service, the Subscriptions screen lets you change plan without cancelling. Moving from Family at $19.99 to Individual at $11.99 saves $8 a month if nobody else in the household uses it. Students can move to the $6.99 Student plan after verifying enrolment. Your library stays in place when you switch.

What Happens After You Cancel: Your Library And Downloads

Nothing changes until the expiry date. After that, Apple’s help pages describe the following:

    ItemAfter your subscription expires
    Streaming the Apple Music catalogueStops
Songs downloaded from Apple Music for offline listeningStop playing; they are tied to an active subscription
Playlists built from Apple Music songsNo longer available
Sync Library (your library across devices)Turns off automatically
Songs and albums you bought in the iTunes StoreStay yours; redownload them any time
Music you had on your device before you subscribedStill available
Apple TV access on the Student planEnds with the subscription

So, if you cancel Apple Music, will you lose your library? The streamed and downloaded Apple Music parts of it, yes. Your purchases, and files you imported yourself and still have on your device, no. Two practical steps before the expiry date:

    • Save your playlists as a list. Take screenshots, or use a transfer tool to copy them to another service while you still have access. Without a subscription, Apple Music playlists cannot be opened to read the track names.
    • Back up anything you uploaded. If your own MP3s or CDs live only in your cloud library, copy the files to your computer before Sync Library switches off.

If you resubscribe later with the same Apple Account, much of your library usually reappears, but Apple does not promise to keep it indefinitely, so do not rely on that as a backup.

Cancel Apple Music Or Delete Your Apple Account?

Almost everyone only needs to cancel. Deleting an Apple Account is drastic and permanent, and it affects every Apple device and service you use.

Can You Get An Apple Music Refund?

Apple does not refund the unused part of a month when you cancel, but you can ask for a refund on a renewal you did not mean to pay for. Eligibility varies by country, and Apple decides case by case.

    1. Sign in to reportaproblem.apple.com with the Apple Account that was charged.
    2. Choose “I’d like to”, then Request a refund.
    3. Pick the reason and click Next.
    4. Select the Apple Music charge and click Submit.
    5. Wait 24 to 48 hours for an update, which you can track on the same site.
    • Cancel first. A refund does not stop future renewals.
    • Pending charges cannot be refunded yet. Wait for the email receipt, then submit.
    • Ask quickly and explain plainly, for example that the trial converted and you have not used it since. Requests made soon after the charge, with little listening since, tend to go best.
    • Google Play and carrier charges go to Google or the carrier, not Apple.
    • Australia and New Zealand have additional rights under consumer law.
