How To Cancel Notion Subscription And Stop The Charges In 2026

Notion has no button labelled “cancel”. You stop paying by downgrading the workspace to the Free Plan from Settings, then Billing, then Change plan.

Pick Free, click Continue, answer the one-question feedback prompt, then click Downgrade. You keep every paid feature until the end of the billing period you have already paid for. If you bought the plan inside the Notion iOS or Android app, that path does nothing and you have to cancel with Apple or Google instead.

That single missing word is behind most of the confusion. The second cause is billing scope: Notion charges per workspace, not per account. One login can sit inside several workspaces, each with its own plan and its own invoice, so downgrading the workspace you happened to be looking at can leave a second one renewing quietly in the background.

This guide covers the full process, the two cases that trip people up most often, the refund windows that are narrower than most people expect, and the handful of changes on the Free Plan that cannot be undone without upgrading again.

    What This Guide Covers

First, Work Out Who Is Billing You

There are three possible billers, and cancelling through the wrong one leaves the charge running. Your most recent receipt settles it in about ten seconds.

Who is billing you How to tell Where to cancel
Notion directly, through Stripe Receipt email from Notion, card statement shows a Notion or Stripe descriptor. Covers most desktop and web signups, including Apple Pay and Google Pay used on the web Settings, then Billing, then Change plan, inside the workspace
Apple Receipt from apple.com, statement shows APPLE.COM/BILL. You upgraded inside the iOS app iPhone or iPad Settings, your name, Subscriptions
Google Play Receipt from Google Play, statement shows a GOOGLE descriptor.
You upgraded inside the Android app Play Store app, profile icon, Payments and subscriptions Your company, through Enterprise procurement No card of yours is involved, the workspace is on Enterprise, billing is invoiced annually Your account manager or the workspace owner.
The self-serve downgrade path is not available

One warning that comes up constantly in support threads. If you once upgraded on your phone and later upgraded again on desktop, you can end up with two live subscriptions billed by two different companies for the same workspace. Cancelling one does nothing about the other. Check both before you conclude the problem is solved.

    Before You Downgrade: Four Checks

    1. Confirm You Are A Workspace Owner

Only workspace owners see billing settings and can change the plan. If you joined a workspace someone else created, the Billing tab either will not appear at all or will be read-only. Your options are to ask the owner to make the change, or to have ownership transferred to you first. Membership alone is never enough, no matter how long you have been paying attention to the invoice.

    2. Check Every Workspace You Belong To

Because plans apply at workspace level, this is the single most common reason people believe they cancelled and got charged anyway. Click the workspace switcher at the top of the sidebar, open each workspace in turn, and look at Settings, then Billing. A personal workspace and a team workspace under the same login are two separate bills.

    3. Count Your Seats First

If the reason you are cancelling is cost rather than the product, removing unused members is often the better move. Paid plans bill per member, so a workspace carrying four people who left the company is paying four times more than it needs to. Removing members lowers the bill from the next cycle rather than immediately, but it keeps the features you are actually using. Guests do not count as members on paid plans, which matters if most of the people in your workspace are external.

    4. Export Anything You Want To Keep

Downgrading does not delete your content. Your pages stay exactly where they are. What changes is what you can do with them, and a few limits bite the moment the downgrade lands, so an export is cheap insurance. Use Settings, then General, then Export all workspace content, and choose Markdown and CSV if you are moving to another tool, or HTML if you want something that opens in a browser. PDF export is a paid feature on some plans, so run it before the downgrade rather than after.

Version history is the one people regret. On the Free Plan it drops to seven days, so anything older than a week that you might want to roll back to is gone as soon as the downgrade takes effect.

Route 1: Cancel Notion On Desktop Or Web

This is the route Notion officially supports, and the only one that works for team and Business plans.

    1. Open the right workspace. Launch the desktop app or go to notion.so and sign in. Use the workspace switcher at the top left to make sure you are inside the workspace that holds the subscription, not a different one.
    2. Click Settings in the left sidebar. If you cannot see it, click your workspace name at the top left first to expand the menu.
    3. Select Billing. You will see the current plan, the billing interval, the number of billed members and the payment method on file. If there is no Billing tab, you are not an owner or the workspace is already on Free.
    4. Click Change plan.
    5. Select the plan you are moving to. Choose Free to stop paying entirely, or a lower paid tier if you only want to cut the bill. Click Continue.
    6. Answer the feedback prompt. Notion asks why you are leaving. It is one question, it is not a retention loop, and answering it is the only way to reach the final button.
    7. Click Downgrade. The confirmation screen shows the date your current plan ends. Screenshot it.
    8. Check for the confirmation email. Notion sends one to the account address. Save it. If a charge appears afterwards, that email is the fastest evidence you have, and it is what support will ask for.

The downgrade is scheduled, not immediate. Until the end date on that confirmation screen, the workspace behaves exactly as it did before, so there is no reason to leave this until the day before renewal and a real risk in doing so.

Notion does not allow plan changes from the mobile apps beyond upgrading a single-member workspace, so if you are reading this on a phone and the subscription is billed by Notion, open a browser on a laptop or ask for a desktop site view.

Route 2: Cancel A Notion Subscription Bought Through The App Store

Notion states plainly that App Store purchases have to be handled by Apple, cancellations and refunds alike. Nothing you click inside Notion will stop an Apple-billed charge, and Notion support cannot process it on your behalf.

    1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. Do not open Notion.
    2. Tap your name at the top to reach your Apple Account.
    3. Tap Subscriptions.
    4. Select Notion from the list.
    5. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm. The screen should then show an expiry date rather than a renewal date.

If Notion does not appear in that list, you were not billed by Apple and should use Route 1 instead. Refunds for Apple-billed subscriptions go through reportaproblem.apple.com, under Apple’s policy rather than Notion’s.

Route 3: Cancel Through Google Play

    1. Open the Google Play Store app, or go to play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions in a browser.
    2. Tap your profile icon in the top right.
    3. Tap Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
    4. Select Notion.
    5. Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts until the listing shows an end date.

Google handles its own refunds too. Requests inside 48 hours of a charge are usually automated through the Play Store; after that it is a manual request that Google can decline.

Notion AI, Custom Agents And Credits

This part has changed, and older guides still describe the previous arrangement. Notion AI used to be a separate paid add-on stacked on top of a plan, which meant you could downgrade the plan and keep paying for AI without noticing. That is no longer how it works. Notion AI now comes with the plans themselves: Free and Plus include a limited trial of it, Business includes full access including the Notion Agent, and Enterprise adds zero data retention with the underlying model providers.

What is billed separately in 2026 is usage. Custom Agents are free to try and then cost $10 per 1,000 monthly Notion credits, and Workers, still in beta, started consuming credits from 15 October. That is consumption billing rather than a subscription, so it does not renew on its own, but if you have credits enabled and agents running, check that section of Billing before you assume a downgrade ends every Notion charge on your card.

For reference, the current published plan prices are $0 for Free, $10 per member per month for Plus, $20 per member per month for Business, and custom pricing for Enterprise. Annual billing is cheaper per seat than monthly, which is also why the refund windows below differ between the two.

If the AI features came bundled with a plan you bought through an app store, cancel in the store. As with everything else, the biller decides the route.

    What Happens After You Downgrade

The downgrade takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle, not immediately. Until that date you keep everything you are paying for. After it, the workspace follows the limits of whichever plan you moved to. These are the changes that surprise people most on a move down to Free.

Feature What happens on the Free Plan
Blocks Unlimited if you are the only person in the workspace.
With two or more people, you are capped at 1,000 blocks Version history Drops to seven days File uploads Capped at 5MB per file Guests Limited to 10 Automations Existing ones keep running but become view-only.
You cannot edit them or build new ones
Charts You keep the first chart created in the workspace. The rest need an upgrade to open
Custom Agents Switched off but not deleted
SAML SSO, SCIM, audit log No longer available. Verified domains lose verification
Custom data retention Reverts to the 30-day default
Your pages and databases Unaffected. Content stays, permissions stay, links keep working

The block cap is the one that bites hardest in practice. It only applies to multi-member workspaces, so a solo workspace can sit on Free indefinitely with unlimited content. A two-person workspace that has been running for a year will almost certainly be well past 1,000 blocks already, which does not delete anything but does stop you adding more until you remove a member or upgrade again.

    The One-Way Doors

A few of the changes above cannot be reversed by upgrading back, or can only be reversed by hand. Worth thinking through before you confirm, because the downgrade screen does not warn you about them.

    • Private teamspaces turned public. If the downgrade converts a private teamspace to open or closed, restoring the private setting requires an upgrade and a manual change. The membership list is not automatically restored.
    • Advanced teamspace permissions. Switching these off flattens the permission structure. Upgrading again gives you the feature back, not the configuration you had.
    • Domain verification. Verified domains lose verification on the Free Plan and have to be reverified from scratch.
    • Version history older than seven days. Once it is outside the Free retention window it is not recoverable by upgrading later.

None of these are reasons to stay on a paid plan you do not need. They are reasons to run the export first and to note your teamspace settings before you click Downgrade.

Notion Refunds: The 3-Day And 30-Day Windows

Sometimes, and the window is narrow. Notion’s published refund policy offers a full, non-prorated refund if you downgrade within three days of signing up for monthly billing, or within 30 days of signing up for annual billing. You request it by contacting support in the app or by email rather than through a self-serve button, so the downgrade and the refund are two separate actions.

There is a separate provision for accidentally added members. If you were charged for seats you did not mean to add, remove those members and contact Notion within three days of the invoice date for a refund of the prorated charges. This one catches teams that invite a batch of people on a Friday and discover the invoice on a Monday, so move quickly.

    Situation Window What you get
New monthly subscription 3 days from signup Full, non-prorated refund
New annual subscription 30 days from signup Full, non-prorated refund
Seats added by mistake 3 days from the invoice date Refund of the prorated seat charges, after you remove the members
Anything outside those windows Not applicable Access until the period ends, no money back
Apple or Google billed Their policy, not Notion’s Requested through Apple or Google, and either can decline

Outside those windows, expect to keep access until the period ends rather than get money back. That is standard for the category, and it is the reason to downgrade the moment you decide rather than at the end of the month.

Downgrading, Leaving And Deleting Are Not The Same Thing

Action What it does What it does not do
Downgrade to Free Stops the next charge, keeps the workspace and all its content Does not refund the current period outside the windows above
Remove members Lowers the bill from the next cycle Does not credit the current cycle. The seat stays usable until the period ends
Leave a workspace Removes you from it Does not stop the billing if you are the owner.
The plan keeps renewing Delete the app Frees up disk space Does nothing at all to the subscription Delete the workspace Removes the workspace and its content permanently Should be done after the downgrade, not instead of it Delete your account Closes the login entirely Can leave a paid workspace orphaned rather than closed if billing is still active

    More Cancellation Guides From ReVerb

Notion is one of the easier ones once you know it is called a downgrade. Others hide the button harder. We have step-by-step guides to cancelling an Adobe subscription, cancelling Canva Pro and Teams, cancelling a ChatGPT subscription, cancelling Amazon Prime and getting a refund and cancelling a Shopify subscription. If you are auditing everything at once, start with our guide to cancelling online subscriptions and automatic payments.

When The Downgrade Does Not Stick

Symptom Likely cause What to do
There is no Billing option in Settings You are not the workspace owner, or the workspace is already on Free Check the workspace switcher, then check your role.
Ask the owner to downgrade or to transfer ownership Cancelled but charged again Almost always a second billing channel or a second workspace Check App Store and Play Store subscriptions, then open every workspace in the switcher and check Billing in each Deleted the app and still being billed Deleting the app, leaving a workspace or not logging in has no effect on billing Run the downgrade, or the app store cancellation.
    Nothing else stops the charge
Cannot change the plan on a phone Notion only allows plan changes on desktop or web. Mobile can upgrade a single-member workspace to Plus, not manage plans Use a desktop browser, or request the desktop site on mobile
The billing screen will not load Desktop app cache, or a browser extension blocking scripts Try a plain browser window with extensions disabled. If it still fails, ask support to process the downgrade in writing
Downgrade confirmed but features still paid Working as intended. The change lands at the end of the billing period Check the end date on the confirmation email.
Only escalate if a charge lands after it Still charged after the end date The downgrade did not save, or a Notion credits balance is being consumed Reopen Billing and confirm the plan reads Free, then contact support with the confirmation email attached

    Escalating

Notion support resolves most billing problems on first contact. Contact them from the question mark menu inside the app or by email, and include your account email, the workspace name, the charge date and amount, and a screenshot of the downgrade confirmation. Ask explicitly for the downgrade to be confirmed in writing. If that does not work:

    • Dispute the charge with your bank or card issuer, inside their time limit, with the cancellation confirmation attached. Downgrade first, because a chargeback does not cancel anything and can get the workspace locked
    • For an Apple or Google billed subscription, use their refund tools rather than Notion support, which cannot act on those charges
    • File a report with the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov if a cancellation is being obstructed
    • Complain to your state Attorney General’s consumer protection office. California residents can cite the state automatic renewal law, which requires online cancellation for anything signed up for online

    Deleting Your Notion Account Entirely

Cancelling a plan and deleting an account are different actions, and doing them in the wrong order causes problems. If you want to be gone completely, work through it in this sequence.

    1. Downgrade or cancel the billing on every workspace you own.
    2. Export the content you want to keep from each one.
    3. Transfer ownership of any workspace other people still use, or you will strand them.
    4. Delete the workspaces you no longer need.
    5. Delete the account from Settings, then My account.

Deleting an account that still has an active paid workspace attached can leave a subscription orphaned rather than closed, which is exactly the outcome you were trying to avoid.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Cancel My Notion Subscription?

On desktop or web, open the workspace holding the subscription, click Settings in the left sidebar, then Billing, then Change plan. Select the Free Plan, click Continue, answer the feedback question, then click Downgrade. Notion calls it a downgrade rather than a cancellation, which is why there is no cancel button.

Does Cancelling Notion Delete My Pages?

No. Your content stays exactly where it is. Only the feature limits change. The one practical restriction is the 1,000 block cap on multi-member Free workspaces, which limits what you can add going forward rather than removing what is already there.

Do I Lose Access Immediately When I Downgrade?

No. Paid features run until the end of the billing cycle you have already paid for. The confirmation screen shows the exact date.

Can I Cancel An Annual Notion Plan Halfway Through?

You can schedule the downgrade at any time, but you keep access until the year ends and you will not be refunded for the unused months unless you are inside the 30-day window from signup.

Why Is There No Billing Tab In My Notion Settings?

Either you are not the workspace owner, or the workspace you are looking at is already on the Free Plan. Only owners see billing settings. Check the workspace switcher at the top of the sidebar in case the paid workspace is a different one.

Will Removing Team Members Lower My Notion Bill?

Yes, from the next billing cycle. You do not get a credit for the current one, and the seat stays usable by someone else until the period ends. If you remove seats you added by mistake, contact support within three days of the invoice date for a prorated refund.

How Do I Cancel Notion If I Subscribed On My iPhone?

Through Apple, not Notion. Open the Settings app, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, select Notion, and tap Cancel Subscription. Nothing you do inside Notion will stop an Apple-billed charge.

Do I Have To Cancel Notion AI Separately?

Not any more. Notion AI is included with the plans rather than sold as a standalone add-on, so downgrading the plan changes your AI access with it. What is billed separately is usage-based Notion credits for Custom Agents and Workers, at $10 per 1,000 monthly credits, so check that section of Billing if a charge persists after the downgrade.

What Are The Notion Free Plan Limits?

Unlimited blocks for a solo workspace, 1,000 blocks once there are two or more members, seven days of version history, 5MB per file upload, 10 guests, view-only automations, one chart, and no SAML SSO, SCIM, audit log or custom data retention.

Can I Come Back To A Paid Plan Later?

Yes. Upgrading again is immediate and your content is waiting where you left it. The exceptions are the one-way doors above: teamspace privacy settings, advanced teamspace permissions, domain verification and version history older than seven days do not come back on their own.

    How Much Does Notion Cost?

Free is $0. Plus is $10 per member per month and Business is $20 per member per month at the published rates, with a discount for annual billing. Enterprise is custom priced. Notion credits for Custom Agents are $10 per 1,000 monthly credits on top of any plan.

    The Short Version

Cancelling Notion is straightforward once you know two things: it is called a downgrade, and it lives at the workspace level rather than the account level. Confirm who is billing you, check every workspace you own, export anything you would miss, then run the downgrade from Settings, Billing, Change plan and pick the Free Plan.

If Apple or Google took the money, cancel in the store instead, because nothing inside Notion will stop that charge. Keep the confirmation email, and check one statement after the cycle closes to be sure the charge is gone for good.
