Most founders who look for AI product studios for startups need the same three things: a team that can test whether the AI part of the idea actually works, a first release real users can touch within a few months, and code that will not need a rewrite after the seed round. Studios that only design, or only staff engineers, tend to miss one of the three. The firms below cover all of them, from discovery and prototype through AI MVP development and the first year of growth. For a wider set of options, see our list of AI product development studios.
We checked every studio on its own website in October 2026. Each one has a dedicated MVP, startup or AI product service, published case studies with named clients, and a clear engagement model. We ranked them on how specialized they are in early-stage AI products, the evidence behind their claims, and how transparent they are about timelines and price. Founders who need a non-AI build first can also compare our MVP development companies for startups.

AE Studio describes itself as a roughly 150-person applied AI studio, bootstrapped with no outside investors and operating since 2016. It started as a product studio with a machine learning thesis, and its startup page promises founder-level speed: a working prototype before a requirements document, weekly shipping and no multi-month discovery phase.
Its startup work runs on three tracks. A zero-to-one build turns an idea or a first set of customers into an AI-native product. A trust track adds evals, guardrails and red-teaming to AI features. A scale track embeds a team once a product has found fit. Published examples include Point Health, an AI fitness and wearable app taken from concept to a public iOS release, and AI conversation practice for Pimsleur that serves 175,000 learners. AE says it may also invest alongside startups when the fit is right.
Rootstrap was founded in 2011 and has 180+ engineers, designers and product people across hubs in Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Medellín and Los Angeles, all working in US time zones. It is SOC 2 certified and lists Anthropic and AWS partnerships. The usual entry point is a Discovery sprint of 2 to 6 weeks that audits what exists, scopes the build and ends with a working prototype.
Its Archivo case shows the startup fit well. A working stylist had built a first version with no-code AI tools. Rootstrap audited it, rebuilt the foundation with CI/CD and tests, and put Claude Haiku at the core for receipt and contract extraction and Claude Sonnet behind an in-app assistant. A stable baseline came in the first three weeks of a ten-week phase, more than 99% of receipts processed in the first two weeks after launch, and the client signed a second phase before the first ended.
Twistag started in 2016 in Lisbon as a product studio building apps and SaaS platforms for startups, and today most of its work is applied AI. The team of 25+ engineers, designers and data specialists says it has shipped more than 80 products for startups, scale-ups and enterprises. It is an Anthropic and AWS partner, holds a 4.9 Clutch rating from 14 reviews and appeared on the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA in 2023 and 2024.
Its startup path has two steps. AI-Native Product Strategy is a fixed 2 to 4 week discovery that ends with a clickable prototype tested with users, a product case and a build, change or stop decision. Custom Software Development then builds the MVP on the same architecture the full platform will use, typically launching within three months of discovery. Keepwhat, an on-demand storage marketplace, launched in 12 weeks, and kencko, a foodtech brand, scaled from MVP to profitability with Twistag. Clients own all code, prompts and infrastructure.
Upsilon has worked with startups since 2012 and is registered in Sheridan, Wyoming, with an office in Tallinn. Its startup page reports 25 products delivered, $177M raised by its clients and two exits. It publishes its process in detail: 14 to 21 business days of discovery, 20 of design, 40 to 60 of development in two-week sprints, and a week for launch. The average MVP budget runs from $25,000 to $75,000.
On the AI side, Upsilon runs a two-week generative AI discovery that covers feature priorities, architecture and an AI prototype, followed by an MVP phase of around three months. Its AI case studies include a proposal-building platform that reached MVP in 22 weeks, an AI marketplace for art and in-house tools such as a Slack task manager. A free MVP calculator and a founder community make it easy to size a project before the first call.
Linnify is based in Cluj-Napoca with a US office in Austin. Its stated aim is to help startups go from idea to market, and it says it has launched more than 100 software products with a validation-driven approach, testing with real users before scaling. It is a Select Partner in the Claude Partner Network, an OpenAI partner, and holds ISO 27001, 9001 and 14001 certificates. It also appeared in the Financial Times ranking of Europe’s fastest-growing companies in 2025.
Its AI line includes rapid AI prototyping with evaluation pipelines and quality thresholds, agentic products and AI integrations. GentrAIner, an AI virtual internship platform, is a startup example; its CEO credits Linnify with turning the idea into a working product. Other cases include Readability, an AI reading app for children, and Kober, AI customer support for technical products.
Altar.io is a Lisbon product studio led by former startup founders. Its MVP Builder runs in six steps: product scope, design brief, key screens, all screens, development, and test and launch. Each step has listed deliverables such as user stories, a sitemap, a tech spike, a design system and launch sign-off. The studio says it has delivered more than 80 projects over ten years and screens at least 100 candidates for every developer it hires.
AI now features in over 60% of its client engagements. Its AI service covers LLM workflows with LangChain and LlamaIndex, RAG on private data, and agents built with AutoGen, CrewAI and Semantic Kernel. Startup clients include Fave, a fan community app that had raised $4.2M by 2023, and Apiax, a Swiss RegTech whose co-founder is quoted on the site.
Neoteric has built data-backed products since 2017 from its Gdańsk headquarters and a New York office. It reports 300+ projects completed and holds a 4.9 Clutch rating from 71 clients, with Clutch badges for AI and GenAI. It offers a dedicated AI MVP development service aimed at a functional mini-MVP in weeks rather than months.
The AI MVP process has six stages: goals and minimum scope, architecture and security baseline, AI-assisted build, senior code review, testing, and deployment with a post-MVP roadmap. An AI Exploratory Workshop is available for founders still shaping the idea. Published AI work includes a generative AI platform built from scratch in eight months and a GPT-4 chatbot whose performance improved 1900% with Pinecone, LangChain and embeddings.
Pragmatic Coders has built digital health and fintech products since 2014 and says it has worked with more than 60 startups, including one unicorn. It promises an MVP in about three months and pairs builds with startup consulting: product discovery workshops, business plans, technology selection and help preparing pitch decks and attending investor meetings.
Its AI service covers agent development, AI integration into existing products, data preparation for fine-tuning and RAG, and custom AI apps. It also offers a Vibe Coding Rescue service for founders whose AI-generated app needs to become reliable and secure. AI case studies include a financial news sentiment feed, a medical documentation folder and an accounting automation that saves two hours a day.
thoughtbot is a remote design and development consultancy with teams in US and UK time zones. Its MVP service starts with a Shaping Sprint that validates assumptions and produces a roadmap within weeks, and Discovery Sprints can run in as little as two weeks. Its client list includes Kickstarter, Harvard Business Review and Mailchimp.
For AI startups, thoughtbot targets a common problem: prototypes built with AI coding or no-code tools that work in a demo but carry fragile architecture and security gaps. It keeps what works and rebuilds what is needed for production, and uses Claude Code in its own design sprints. Its AI and ML service builds custom generative AI applications, and its case studies include Folio, launched in time for its first paying customer, and Neighborhood Alerts, which reached 4M users in months.
RaftLabs started in 2015 and has 50+ engineers and designers between Dublin and Ahmedabad. It has launched its own products, two of which were acquired. A focused MVP starts at $10,000, payment is by milestone with written acceptance criteria, and a working prototype is promised within three weeks of kickoff.
For AI, RaftLabs offers a proof of concept that tests one uncertain use case for quality, data readiness, latency and cost before production scope is set. Its AI examples include receipt checking for a loyalty platform, OCR for gas station operations and AI phone agents that run voice interviews. The GrowViral SaaS MVP shipped in 14 weeks with 12+ integrations, and every MVP includes eight weeks of defect support.
A good studio reduces risk before it writes production code. Use these questions on every first call.
The riskiest part of most AI startups is whether the model can do the job at the quality and cost you need. Ask for a product discovery sprint or proof of concept that tests the core AI task on real data, with pass and fail criteria agreed in advance. Studios such as RaftLabs and Upsilon price this step separately, which keeps the first commitment small.
Many MVPs are thrown away at Series A. Ask how the studio plans for growth: shared design systems, tests on critical paths, CI/CD and an architecture that can take more AI features later. Ask to see a product the studio built that is still running two or three years after launch.
You should own the source code, design files, prompts, evaluation sets and infrastructure as code from day one. Confirm this in the contract, along with access to every cloud and model provider account. Avoid studios that host your product on their own accounts without a handover plan.
Look for written phases with acceptance criteria and milestone payments, not open-ended hourly billing. Published ranges help: on this list they run from $10,000 for a focused MVP to $25,000 to $75,000 for a typical startup build. Ask what is excluded, such as third-party model costs.
The first months after launch decide whether the product finds its users. A startup product studio that can keep a small team on for iteration, or help you hire your own, saves a painful handover. If you need part-time senior help instead, see our list of fractional AI team providers.
Most studios on this list quote about three months from the end of discovery to launch, with discovery itself taking two to four weeks. Smaller, single-use-case builds can ship sooner, and RaftLabs and Neoteric aim for a working prototype within weeks. Integrations, regulated data and custom model training add time.
Published figures range from $10,000 for a focused MVP at RaftLabs to an average of $25,000 to $75,000 at Upsilon. Costs rise with integrations, data work and AI evaluation. Ask each studio to separate fixed build costs from ongoing model and hosting costs.
A development agency builds to your specification. A startup product studio also helps decide what to build: it runs discovery, tests with users, shapes scope and often advises on go-to-market or fundraising. For AI products this matters because scope depends on what the model can reliably do.
Nearly every MVP on this list starts with hosted models from providers such as Anthropic or OpenAI, plus retrieval over the startup’s own data. Custom training makes sense later, once you have usage data and a clear quality gap. For integration-heavy builds, see our list of LLM integration companies.
The right studio depends on where you are. Founders with only an idea get the most from studios with strong discovery, such as Twistag, Altar.io and Upsilon. Founders with a working AI-built prototype should look at Rootstrap and thoughtbot, which specialize in turning demos into production products. Teams that want a large AI bench from day one should talk to AE Studio.
Whichever you pick, insist on a short paid discovery, written acceptance criteria and full ownership of your code and prompts. For more early-stage partners, compare our software development companies for startups and the AI-native product studios in Europe.
