Usual routeSetup service or DIY
Pick the platform, get the store configured and live, and know what you will pay before the first sale.
Usual routeTheme customization or custom build
A paid theme gets most stores live. A custom theme or UX overhaul pays off once traffic is high enough that small conversion gains matter.
Usual routeDeveloper, agency or app
When the theme and the App Store run out, you need a developer. These cover who to hire and when a custom app beats an off-the-shelf one.
Usual routeMigration specialist
Products, customers, order history and URL redirects all have to come across cleanly, or you lose rankings on day one. Pick a specialist for the platform you are leaving.
Usual routePlus partner agency
Plus adds the B2B, checkout and automation features high-volume brands need. The agencies below work at that scale.
Usual routeB2B specialist agency
Customer-specific pricing, net terms, quote flows and ERP sync. Most Shopify agencies do not build these, so start with one that does.
Usual route3PL or integration partner
Once orders outgrow the back room, you need a warehouse partner that plugs into Shopify and an integration that keeps inventory, orders and invoices in sync with your ERP.
Usual routeTechnical fixes, then content
Shopify handles the basics. Duplicate collection URLs, app bloat and thin product pages are where stores lose rankings and speed.
Usual routeAgency, ads or tools
Paid ads, email and SMS, referrals and conversion work. The guides explain the tactics, the lists rank who runs them well.
Usual routeIndustry specialist
Experts who have built stores for your kind of catalog, from manufacturers and parts suppliers with huge SKU counts to furniture, fitness and sporting goods brands with oversized shipping and variant-heavy products.
Usual routeLearn from operators
Leader Spotlight interviews with people who build and run ecommerce businesses and the tools Shopify stores rely on.
Ranked lists
Our editorial rankings, grouped by what you are hiring for. Sponsored placements are always labeled.
Sponsored
One paid slot per hub. A Shopify partner agency or app: logo, a two-line pitch and a button, clearly separated from the editorial lists.
Partner CTAShopify agencies set up and design stores, build custom themes and apps, move stores over from other platforms, and run SEO, ads and conversion work. Many specialize in one of these, so match the agency to the job rather than hiring a generalist for everything.
Usually not until volume is high. Plus is Shopify’s enterprise plan and adds native B2B, more checkout control, automation and higher limits. Brands that need wholesale price lists, multiple storefronts or deep ERP integration are the usual candidates. The Plus section above covers agencies that work at that scale.
Map every old product, collection and page URL to its new Shopify URL and set 301 redirects before launch, and carry over customers, order history and reviews. A migration specialist for the platform you are leaving does this routinely. See the migration section for WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento and Volusion moves.
A freelancer is often enough for theme tweaks and app setup. An agency is the safer pick for a full build, a migration or ongoing growth work, because you get design, development and QA under one contract.
